Tale of two experiences. The Good: Great strip with easy fuel and walking distance to adjacent casino to the field. The Bad: Ran into some rather rude folks from Extreme Skydiving, Las Vegas who I guess thinks they own the field and the terminal. Maybe they were having a bad day!!!!

This airport is very busy. Gliders and towplanes operate on the eastern runway, there's an aerobatic box to the west, and the landing area for the skydivers is to the south -> directly on the straight-in for Rwy 2L. Self-serve fuel was fine. Bathrooms were clean. However, the drop zone monitor was extremely rude on Unicom. I'm a skydiver myself so I understand his perspective... And I will not be coming back again.

Flew to Jean 5/8/10 same comment, nobody there to levy a landing fee. Lots of skydiving going on as well as gliding activities. Watch the turbulence as you descend over the local hills, gets quite bumpy to say the least.

Not sure about the ramp fee (I bought gas and it was a Sunday), but the "terminal was locked tight and no airport personnel around, so not sure how they charge fees. Good airport, good runways and close to the dry lake bed. Lots of Gliders and Jumping..

Chalk me up as another local flyer who will avoid the Jean airport because of the $ 7.00 ramp fee that was recently levied. My group did enjoy going there for breakfast fly-in's but sadly, no more.

I am another local pilot who will no longer fly into Jean because of the user fees. The Gold Strike also loses out since we will no longer spend any money there. Clark County should reconsider this user fee, since they ultimately will lose more than the $7 they are trying to squeeze from us.

I live on an airport and associate with many recreational pilots, none of which will ever go there for gas, food or any other reason again. There are many other places convenient to my group of flyers to go for fuel and food (and we do almost daily), which do not charge a ramp fee. PS: You don't have the cheapest gas in the area.

What is with the ramp fees? I fly in often with 3 or 4 other planes for breakfast, but no more. I will go to Kidwell, SearchLight, Kingman or any other airport with no fees. Lake Havasu has a place to eat now and the fuel is about a dollar cheaper too!

Jean charging a $7 landing fee???? "We" all fly in for brunch and enjoy the flights, airport and good food but if Jean wants a landing fee we will just fly over and wave. Good bye Gold Strike............... Response from Dennis Anderson, Airport Manager Thank you for your comments. The fees for service at all four of the general aviation airports owned by Clark County, including Jean Sport Airport, have not been raised since 1993. We believe that based on a survey of representative general aviation airports our new service fees are at or below market rate in comparison with others across the country. A ramp fee was implemented as part of an effort to recover our increasing costs. This fee is completely waived with the purchase of any quantity of fuel. Please recognize that it is important to keep the airport economically viable through the introduction of these nominal fees, and we hope you will continue to use the airport.

Jean Nevada was a pleasant surprise. We did the seven-minute walk over to the Gold Strike Casino for a very nice Sunday buffet breakfast that included an omelet station and even great Kahlua Pork! Nice folks at the airport included a friendly wave from the man mowing the lawn. Gold Strike Casino security was friendly as well, offering us a ride back to the airport, which they almost wouldn't let us decline. The casino itself is clean and has that nice "Old Vegas" look. Looks like the old original airport runway is visible immediately to the west of the taxiway. Only unusual part of the airport is that it seemed all parking spaces were painted "RSRVED, " but when other transient aircraft parked in those spots, we did too without problems.
