I flew into Shelter Cove 8/14/09. Chart Room still closed. Across the street is Costa Cucina serving fresh made take out pizza and pasta. Also serving sit-down dinners with open view of ocean Friday, Saturday and Sunday 6-9. Menu includes Fish specials, Chowder & Pasta dinners. I enjoyed the Chicken Piccata and was very pleased.

Stopped in for lunch on Memorial Day and they were closed. The place has good food when opened but I've only timed it right once. The store/deli near the approach end of runway 30 is the only place one can count on. Their Fish and Chips are pretty good.

Flew in for a family day trip on a May Sunday - wx was perfect along the coast which made it a great beach day. There seemed to be plenty of activity from fishermen, tourists, locals, golfers, etc all enjoying the day. The campground had a few tenants and the store was open and serving sandwiches. It also has all kinds of snacks and beverages. Seemed like many of the other places were open as well, but we didn't venture over there. Runway is still in good condition, but taxiway has plenty of rocks to be aware of. Golf course was in decent shape as well. Overall, it's a tough place to beat for a weekend or day trip, and the scenery is beautiful.

Flew into Shelter Cove on 4-13-08. The old RV Park has been demolished and replaced by a nice lawn with plenty of picnic tables and an excellent view of the runway. The deli was open for lunch (on a Sunday). Nothing else appeared to be open, including the Chart Room (which is still for sale.) Reminders about Shelter Cove: There's no fuel, no services, and the tiedown area is covered in loose gravel. The taxiways are still clean, though, and so is the runway. I would avoid running a propeller when in the tiedown area!

The Chart Room continues to be up for sale but is often open for dinner on the weekends, at least during the spring, summer, and fall seasons.

Flew in yesterday, stopping at Little River for fuel before going up north on the coast (no fuel is available at Shelter Cove). METAR is available at KO87, as can be seen on the skyvector.Com chart right next to the airport. I would also recommend satellite imagery, as weather can vary between Arcata (closest TAF) and here. There are a lot of neat places to walk around, a lighthouse just off the airport, and the campground practically on the airport. We had lunch at the store on the south end right next to campground.
