Flew to Shelter Cove today to have a look at the local Hotels in order to decide which we would stay at in an upcoming weekend visit. Talked to the management at two of them to get an idea of rates and availability. Walked over to Oceanfront Inn with my wife and little dog (on a leash). When we got to the front door a man walked out of the office and said, "this is private property, and you need to leave." Thinking that I had accidentally wandered up to a private residence I asked, "Isn't this the hotel?" He responded, "yes, but it is private property and I don't want you disturbing our guests." I told him that I had come to inquire about rates and he said, "We don't allow people with dogs, so that takes care of that, now you need to be going. The library and the park are public, you can go there if you want." I'm almost 60 years old and I don't know what we did to get the bum's rush, but we apologized for disturbing him and left.
Response from Bill Baumann, Oceanfront Inn This is a nice place and we hope you will visit sometime. I noticed 2 people in the rental unit yard area of suite # 1, walking to the ocean side. I explained the yard they were in leads around front to where the renters are sitting enjoying the ocean. I explained the beach access was on the other side of the building. He said oh I thought this was public property; he took the time to make the comment on the oceanfront inn so others would not want to visit. The fact of the matter is he was in someone’s private yard and did not want to hear anything else. Your yard and mine is private property. Businesses are private property. Your front yard and mine is not public property... his poor wife tried to soothe him to no avail, so there you are. Come visit the oceanfront inn in beautiful shelter cove sometime if you can handle it. By the way if you have visited the oceanfront inn in beautiful shelter cove before you are welcome to comment to be fair and balanced.....
