I visited Mettetal in May of 2007. Kitze Aviation provided excellent friendly service. I look forward to returning later this year.

I fly into Plymouth-Mettetal 2-3 times a year for business and to visit "home". I really cherish its location. You can't beat it if you are headed for the western suburbs of the Detroit area. Major-freeways, hotels, restaurants, it's all within a mile-or-two. For car rental, I suggest calling Avis in Plymouth. C.J. Prides himself in giving excellent customer service to general aviators at 1D2. Call them directly, or get his number from Kitze.

We visited Mettetal the last week of May. The Kitze staff was OK. Mr. Kitze himself was friendly, helpful and welcoming. My wife grew up in the shadow of this little airport, but she never took off or landed there until now. We are thrilled that the Canton and Plymouth Township and City Councils were up-ended in their efforts to close Mettetal. Three cheers to the Michigan Department of Aviation for stepping in to save it. This is a lovely little airfield, complete with aviator (and aviatrix) wannabes hanging out on the fence, watching the action. The best part of that is: the fence is right out in front of the apron, which makes for great seats for the audience. We'll be back!

Nice airport. Flew in on May 6, 2006. Very helpful and friendly staff.

Busy suburban airport retains the flavor of a small outlying airstrip -- which it was 30 years ago before developers engulfed it in housing tracts and commercial strips. Mettetal is a testament to the benefits of a forward-looking state aviation agency. The property was about to be stolen from GA by a cadre of capitalists and city hall schemers 12 years ago, but the Michigan aeronautics department stepped in and saved it. Now it is booming, with many new hangars, a greatly expanded tiedown ramp and a bustling flight-school operation. Doug Kitze runs a professional FBO and a full-service maintenance operation, yet keeps the airport a friendly place for flying enthusiasts. Always hot coffee, snack machines, a Wx terminal and plenty of couch space. Remember when you'd see airport kids sitting at the picnic table or hanging on the fence, watching the action? You'll still see it here. I moved far away from Michigan six years ago, but it's still a pleasure to go back into Plymouth Mettetal.
