Very friendly people. My wife and I had a real nice visit on the island with an overnight stay June 30th. However, the ramp needs cleaned up a bit. Many stones/rocks.

Flew in on a weekday. Great trip. About a dozen aircraft on the field, plenty of empty parking spots. No fuel, but the bathrooms were open. Called Erie Island carts - were out in about 5 minutes with a golf cart. Spent about 2 hours for dinner at the boardwalk and driving around the island. Just leave the $10 landing fee in the dropbox, and the golf cart key at the front desk upon departure. One note, there were thousands of fish flies at the departure end of Rwy 3. If wind is not factor, suggest departing Rwy 21.

Flew in for the weekend and had a really nice time. Nice little airport with cart rentals available on site. Rented a cart and drove out to the plane to unload when someone at the airport nearly had a coronary! So, should you decide to visit, no fuel and no vehicle access to the plane! They did offer the use of a cart for our luggage on the departure. The place was open when I landed (Saturday), but when closed you will need to place $10.00 in an envelope with your tail number written on the outside. As mentioned in other posts, no tie downs available but plenty of parking places the weekend I was there.

Flew into Put In Bay for a quick lunch. I had a great time. The whole island is about golf carts and bikes. Landed, grabbed a golf cart and headed into town for lunch at the boardwalk. Landing was $10. Golf cart was $25 for two hours, and lunch was $18 for a great lobster role and a diet coke. I was off again within 1.5 hours headed back home. Next time I will spend a night there with the wife and kids.

Flew into Put-In-Bay on June 26, 2009. Found this to be a great day trip to get away from the heat of the Midwest. Plenty of restaurants to choose from but we decided to go to subway and head out to one of many picnic areas along the shore for lunch. The landing fee/parking is $10.00 for the day, $15.00 if you stay overnight. Inside the FBO/terminal building is a counter with envelopes and pricing just above them. Put your money in the envelope and drop it in the slot. Taxi rides to the commercial district are $3.00 per person; it's an easy walk if the weather is good, guessing about a mile and half. Erie island Carts (419-285-5278) has golf carts for rent right from the field, you probably should call ahead to reserve one. They have a lot of aircraft parking but it seems to fill up quickly so I'd recommend bringing your own chocks and ropes. Chocks in case you don't get lucky enough to get a tie down.

Stayed for two days on P-I-B and again be aware the airport's levy didn't pass so it is unattended. We found everything locked up but they do post the taxi's number(s) so not a big issue. Parking is on hard surface but bring your ropes.

As of June 1st, the airport is still unattended. After landing, the golf cart lesser was kind enough to show us how to pay the landing and parking fees. Basically you put your money into an envelope, write your tail number on it, and put it in a slot. As mentioned earlier, bring your own tie down equipment. Put In Bay is a great area with good restaurants and nice people.

Visited South Bass for the first time today. Upon landing the taxi driver informed us the recent operating levy for the airport or port authority did not pass and the airport was open but unattended. The facilities are nice and clean- it will be interesting to see what happens over the next few months. There is typically a landing fee but since nobody was there we simply signed the book at the FBO and went on our way. Plenty of space on the ramp but no fuel or tie-downs. Bring your own to be safe. The island was BEAUTIFUL and I highly recommend going during the week if possible to avoid the crowds. Perry Monument is a must-see and plenty of shops and restaurants. We ate at High Tide (pretty good) and the Crescent Tavern (EXCELLENT).
