Friendly airport manager (Gary), clean, not busy, reasonable fuel costs, courtesy car. What's not to like? Been flying here from Oklahoma for years now and never a bad experience.

The runway is in good condition and aligned well with the prevailing wind (which was gusting to 27kts when I arrived). The terminal building was open (but unstaffed), and the self-serve fuel worked perfectly. Thanks a lot to Huerfano County for investing in--and maintaining--this airport!

I used Spanish Peaks while the fog was clearing at PUB. The runway is in very good condition with near new paint. Fuel prices @ $3.80 are the lowest I have seen anywhere in a while. The FBO building was open and clean. The airport appeared to be unattended, but several people were around on a Saturday morning if you needed help.

Nice little airport with nice people too. Field is not easy to find, since the runway blends in with the surrounding terrain. Gary and his pals are delightful, and remember to bring a treat for Hershey, the resident canine.

Came in for elk hunting from Texas. Runway is in good condition and facilities are good. Airport is unattended, and fuel pump works very well for self serve. Phone numbers are posted, and airport manager "Gary" is more than willing to help with you're questions. AWOS provides info for high density altitudes, which were over 8000' on our trip.

This was the perfect fuel stop. Nice facilities and all equipment worked as advertised. A large herd of antelope on and near the runway on landing behaved well and vacated the area as I approached. For that reason I probably wouldn't hesitate to land here in the dark.

I was hesitant to land at Spanish Peaks because the runway is described as in "fair condition". Actually, it was in what I would call "good condition". The SS 100 LL was by far the cheapest I found on my trip through CO and UT. There's not what I would call an FBO. Instead, it's a small building with some furniture and a clean bathroom, but I didn't see any people or vending machines. All in all, a nice, uncrowded airport with great fuel prices.

Great prices, nice bathrooms, good phone reception and a quick in-and-out as already mentioned. BUT ... Watch for wildlife on the runway. Just as I lifted off a couple antelope crossed the runway ahead of me (east end.) It was a bit unnerving, but kind of neat to see, too.

I made it a point to stop at Spanish Peaks AP/Huerfano Co on my way home for two reasons. #1 Gary Hanish was nice enough to return my calls previous to my recent trip to No. Iowa and report on changes in fuel prices. Don't you hate it when it is higher than reported! 2nd...Secondly the prices (3.40/gl 100LL) were very competitive even lower than most. I had trouble reading the CC machine window but went through the usual routine and got fuel just fine. This is an easy in and out AP. Actually quite Fun!!! A Strong X-wind N or S would make this challenging. (50 ft.) wide but I had no problem with my twin Cessna in a summer mid-morning landing and take off.............Be sure and check density altitude.... Thanks Huerfano Co., and Gary Hanish especially!!! The AWOS at 120.6 is a good addition and was reporting accurately when I landed as best I could tell. Cheers
