Came here for a weekend fall getaway. The airport was easy to fly in and fly out with a single (Cessna 182). I did not need nor buy avgas this trip. I was surprised by the all of the signs demanding pilots report and fill out a form stating their arrival, even though nobody was present. 6 PM on a Friday. Nobody present at departure either - 2 PM on a Sunday. Nice weather too. The forms asked to pay $10/night. However, no services offered, not even aircraft handling, in exchange for this fee. And the form made no mention of waiving these fees, if you bought avgas. However, at most other airports, including big airports such as Raleigh-Durham, or Charlotte-Monroe, you pay $10/night but you get "front door" service and aircraft handling. Also, if you get avgas, at least one night is waived. However, none of this seems to exist yet at 60J, hence my lower rating.

Wonderful airport and people. This is THE place to stop for food and fuel or just fun. Flew up with a friend from Charleston for lunch and couldn't have had a better experience. Young John working the airport recommended Inlet View Restaurant and loaned me the crew car to get there. Inlet View was perfect, on the water, local and great fresh food. When I refueled the 100LL prices was more than a buck cheaper per gallon then here in Charleston. I can't recommend this airport and people enough. I'm gonna make it a regular stop.

I have been flying into Ocean Isle since 1972 when it was a lonesome but beautiful grass strip. There were 2 payphones between the beach and the airport. I was thrilled to see the FBO go in. We should all understand this operation started at the worst possible time economically and need our backing. I have had 4 experiences and each one has been better than the last. They have gone out of their way to accommodate my needs. The taxi-way situation is a shame but not a serious problem . . . They are good people . . . Stop in . . Buy fuel!

Had a great experience with the FBO, and especially Bill. Decided to fly-in with my wife on Memorial Day weekend, called ahead to see if we could get a car...not expecting anything. Great weather and when we arrived, Bill took us to Sharky's, picked us back up and let us use his "Red Jeep" afterwards. We didn't smell anything in the jeep, and the air conditioning worked great...Thanks for a great experience, we'll definitely be back.

Flew down on a late Sunday after noon to get some food. Ate dinner at the Newly remodeled Bourbon Street Restaurant on the corner across the street from the airport. Food was okay but not what I expected for the price. If you can get a car I recommend driving down to Sharky’s, which is a well known place only a half mile further away toward the beach. An ILS or GPS approach would make this airport a 10 plus. Had to come in dodging and duck 500ft scattered. All in all a very nice place and a brand new FBO that is accessible after hours.

Great facility and fuel prices, but the rental car I used was way below par. $40.00 a day for a run-down Jeep Cherokee with 260, 000 miles and it smelled like an oil refinery on the inside. Even riding with the windows open didn't help much. Almost sickening smell. Stay away from the red Jeep!

First trip back to Ocean Isle since before the renovations and what a pleasant surprise. Bill at the FBO connected us with Chris Schmidt, whose gorgeous new RV-9A is based there. Chris arranged for transportation for our group of 16 flyers from Raleigh (EAA 1114) and we enjoyed lunch and hangar flying at Sharkeys. Refueling was easy with the self-service, and prices were low. Can't wait to go back!

What a difference one year can make! This is my third year visiting 60J for a few days at the beach. The new FBO building is complete, the new runway is in place, and the ramp is really looking good. It is nice to see the airport breathing life again into this community. A couple individuals took it upon themselves to make this airport user friendly. They have their own rental cars if you call ahead, provided a hangar for my aircraft for the duration and were friendly to boot! They have a flight school; the FBO offers clothing and pilot supplies. All they need now is an instrument approach. I have gone to Myrtle Beach, Grand Strand and here...I like this place the best. Stop in and visit, you will not be disappointed...

Back in Ocean Isle this week to bring some stuff down to our new house we purchased on OIB and David met us out at the tie downs with pilot lounge pass code. Filled out overnight paperwork and told him we would be re-fueling in morning before departure and overnight fee was waved. Runways look great with new blacktop and markings. Keep up the good work.
