Landed on 25 and uneventful. Take-off from 7 has a few humps so I counted 3 take-offs. Watch the humps on 7 about 1/3 the way down the runway.

Flew in Sept 25th. Runway in good condition. FBO unlocked. Resort is being restored and was a great destination. Resort picked us up and returned us to the airport. Far Flung coordinated a float trip through Colorado Canyon. I'll bring my family back. Great trip!

Spoke to resort manager today to inquire about runway repairs. Facility manager is having runway repairs made but he is on vacation. Back Sept 1st. I last flew into 89TE in March 2009 in a Beech Baron. Runway had weeds growing up through the cracks, runway has 2 major dips at center and west end. Recent floods winter of 2008 Takeoff in the Baron was interesting going up and down the dips. Runway needs to be repaired and leveled back out. No services. FBO is closed and locked. Gate is locked. Need to call resort.

This was my 2nd or 3rd trip to Lajitas, although it has been over a year since my last visit. We rented a Jeep Liberty from Terlingua Auto 432-371-2223. There were no other rental car options. The area experienced a hundred-year-flood in Sep '08. The golf course was destroyed, but there are plans to rebuild soon. The rest of the resort was, sadly, not up to the high standards experienced on previous visits, and all the little shops & general store were out of business. Only 1 restaurant was open. Hope they get their act together, because it was an absolute delight, before. Jet A & 100LL were both available, but the FBO is usually locked, so no bathrooms. Also, the gate to the airport is often locked, so contact Lajitas for access. Since the area is so remote, we appreciated the extra security, but would have preferred an attended FBO for even greater aircraft security. If you have a sense of adventure, check it out. The views while exploring Big Bend National Park are spectacular.

After a long but scenic flight to Lajitas, I was shocked to discover the runway contaminated with 9 or 10 ATV riders!!! I entered the traffic pattern and radioed my intentions over CTAF to no avail. I was forced to do a low approach/go around and then reenter the traffic pattern. Yet the ATVs remained... I finally radioed the situation on 121.5 (guard). And about 10 minutes later the runway was cleared. On the ramp I was met by the hotel manger that doubles as the ATV tour guide. Not only did he allow the ATVs to go right back on the runway, he was extremely rude and unapologetic. Despite having a large sign saying AIRCRAFT ONLY he stated that this is a private airport and that "he can do whatever he wants." I find it amazing that Lajitas tries to market itself as a serious general aviation destination for jets and let alone piston planes when they lack an utter disregard for aviation safety. The resort itself is horribly rundown and barely operational. No rental cars are available.

Arrived Friday at 6:00 p.M. Huge and nice runway and tiedown area with good tiedowns and chocks available. My call to the resort one week prior to arrival was to no avail - they had no knowledge of my expected arrival. FBO was locked, not a soul around. Cell phone service is good at the location, which is not always the case in this part of the world. They sent someone out to unlock the gate to the airport to let my transportation in. Fuel price of $5.30 is good considering how remote the location is. Staff is nice, but not very aviation knowledgeable.

Be advised that Lajitas does not have fuel right now. They are cleaning the tanks and getting new filters. I don't know when they will have it back so I recommend you call first.
Response from Edwin Leslie, Lajitas Resort WE HAVE FUEL - Lajitas Airport 89TE now has both LL and Jet-A fuel service available 7 days per week. Please call us at 432-424-5000 for fuel services. I read with interest some of the recent comments from guests and want to update the status of the airport. We do "not" charge a landing fee or tie down fee to any "resort guests". Fees are only charged in the event that someone wishes to use the airport for purposes other than visiting the resort. Also if a guest purchases fuel (even non resort guests) there is no landing and tie down fees. Within the next 10 days the runway "bumps" as referred to by one of the comments are being resolved to make for a smoother landing and takeoff.

The staff at the Lajitas Resort was exceedingly accommodating when weather changed our flying plans. The Resort is perfect for the locale. The new owners are really trying to "make-a-go-of-it", by cutting nearly all of the costs in half. Flying considerations: Contact hotel staff for pickup after landing. The resort is 5 miles away. No fuel. FBO is locked, so there is no restroom, no public phone, and no flight plan facilities. No gas. Cell phones do work, however :-) Yes, there are runway humps (from the asphalt heating during the hot desert summers). Makes for a rockin-and-rolling take-off and landing, but as long as you're expecting it, it's not a problem. I highly recommend Lajitas for folks that love Big Bend!

Wanted to go, but the 100$ landing fee PLUS undisclosed tie down fee mentioned by staff on phone put me off. OK for high rollers but that's a bit much for a flivver-driver. Lajitas was best when it was a gravel strip next to the road and you could saunter up the hill for a 5$ breakfast and watch the airplane from the table...Sigh.

Arrived Feb 14 for a Valentines weekend; Knew in advance there was no fuel. Also learned - no tug and no linemen. Departure was an adventure - a series of humps in the runway launched us a couple of times before we were ready to fly - probably should log 3 touch and goes on that take off. Beautiful place but won't be back until the new ownership gets the act together.

Visited Lajitas on 20 Jan 08 and learned the entire operation changed hands recently. Airport is still open, but does not have any fuel and is not attended. Call the Lajitas hotel for a pickup if visiting. Also all the rates for hotel rooms were reduced by half. See their web site for more info.

Flew to Lajitas in a Learjet 35. Call to make a reservation before you arrive. 432-424-3544 is the # for the FBO. The # listed on AirNav is the resort front desk.. Call this if the FBO is closed and they will relay information. The airport manager who took care of us is Juan Rodriguez. As of Oct. 2nd Jet-A premixed with Prist was $4.50 out-the-door. The facility is very nice.. They also have a GPU and a computer with high-speed Internet access.

I've been landing our corporate jet, a Gulfstream G550 (tail # N550GA) at Heath Canyon (1XS7) on the east side of Big Bend and having to stand on the brakes and with full reverse thrusters engaged to roll up JUST short of the west end terminus of the 2500 foot tarmac. I did a low level pass over Lajitas Resort's (89TE) relatively "spacious" 7500-foot runway 7/25. Now I'll be landing our Gulfstream there when I have to be at Big Bend National Park on business every other week. I was going off an obviously outdated navigation chart indicating 89TE runway 25/7 as only 2717 feet. Now I know better! Be seeing you soon Juan!

I called Lajitas on Friday to confirm they had 100LL and they did. However, I forgot to confirm the price. Since the last update was 9 days I assumed it was current. What a shock to learn the price was now $5.40. The service is still great and the lineman, Juan, is very helpful and courteous.
