John Poppy, the airport manager, treated us as personal guests, helping with fuel and accommodations, and when thunderstorms threatened, he found us hangar space for our RV8. He even drove us to the motel! We, too, used Portage as a stage to AirVenture. I hope that the City of Portage realizes what a treasure they have in this airport, and continue to develop it. Portage is a nice place to visit, too.

John Poppy is still there. We were treated as guest’s not just customers. This is a wonderful stop enroute to KOSH.

Only bought 12 gallons for our "150", but John was as friendly and helpful as he could be. He's an old friend you just haven't met yet.

John was as helpful as an FBO can be when several of us got waylaid at Portage waiting for OSH to open up this year. He kept us informed of the latest updates and even organized a shuttle for us who gave up waiting for OSH to open for arrivals. His daughter was kind enough to even come get us when it was time to leave for home. Can't say enough about John's personal service and nice airport atmosphere he's created there.

Year 4 to stay at Portage during EAA. John really goes above and beyond to make C47 a great place to stop! Got to C47 late so we had to wait until the next day for our rent car. Portage has great cab service that is $6 fixed anywhere in Portage. We'll be back next year!

The self-serve pumps are great, and thank you for having mogas for those of us who can use it. Restroom facilities and snacks are available in the building. It is accessible even when no one is there by using the keypad on the door on the east end of the building. The code is the Unicom freq. This makes for a great stop.

Bound for OSH and stopped for $3.69 gas on 7/29/09. Very nice airport, and John Poppy was helpful. (Starter bendix need some lube, and John found some silicone spray! THANKS) this is THE spot before the final push to OSH, from now on.

This is a wonderful airport. It is basically a one-man operation... John Poppy is great. He did everything to make our stay (two nights), a pleasurable experience. We had previously arranged to meet with two additional airplanes/pilots here. The airport is a good RON in preparation for launching to OSH. We'll be back!

Stopped at Portage for fuel after leaving OSH...Cheap fuel for the area, friendly service (manager let us use his computer for internet access and phone to file a flight plan). Easy airport to find and get in and out of. Definitely the preferred stop for next year!

Stopped in after reading some of the previous positive comments. I agree this airport has a good friendly atmosphere. Food was within easy walking distance. The airport makes for a good $100 hamburger stop. "The Hitching Post" bar/restaurant was open for lunch. (Great food and service, the building itself is nothing special.) It's just behind the hangers on the west side of the airport. Just don't "Google map" the place, because they say it's much further north.

Stopped here for fuel on my way from KY to northern MN. Fabulous fuel stop. Landed late afternoon and went looking for food. Found a store about a block from the airport that sold fresh Wisconsin Cheese curds--Carr Valley squeaky fresh. The Hitching Post, just a short walk across the runway was open and had a great hamburger and better service. Even a free popcorn machine. They'll even make your meal to go if you want. FBO was clean and the fuel pumps were fast.
