F14 is no longer attended. Completely self service to keep fuel price low. Volunteers maintain the facility. Owners of a/c based at F14 are a social bunch. A lot gather every Sunday evening, conduct a "Pumpkin Plummet" first Saturday after Halloween, and have a Christmas party first week of December. There are other airports at Wichita Falls with fancier facilities due to millions in federal grants and taxpayer dollars having been spent on them. The F14 operator is more interested in providing affordable aviation than making money. Wealthy transients are encouraged to use the fancy airports, pay $1.30 more per gallon so the taxpayers get a little money back. But don't call ahead to check the condition of the turf runways at the "expensive, well kept airports with service". They don't have turf runways. F14 has 3.

An excellent place to stop and refuel. With 100LL at less than $3.00 (self-serve), it's by far the lowest price around. The facilities are old, but the restrooms and lounge are clean and comfortable and even have a well-stocked vending machine. Lots of friendly folks to talk to early in the morning (apparently a regular coffee group). The other FBOs in town are great also (you just pay a little more for their services).

Wichita Valley is a great stop. In fact, a few years ago when flying over the top of Wichita Falls, we had an emergency and had to land. Various homebuilders, including the owner of the airport, were there enjoying the day and gladly helped us fix our airplane. We made friends with several of them and have since attended and participated in the yearly Pumpkin Plummet, which is a great time and happens each year on the first Saturday in November. Even if you miss the fun in November, though, you will be happy if you stop at F14. The fuel prices are usually the lowest around, the facilities are nice and will meet your needs, and you are likely to meet some very friendly Texans!

Flew there based on what I saw here on AirNav, but wish I wouldn't have. I called ahead to make sure the turf runways were in good shape. After much confusion on their end about what I was asking I was told they're great. Well, they're not! I refueled and requested a receipt, but couldn't get one. The fuel price was a dime more than listed here, but since it's not guaranteed... Whatever. A small dog in the FBO (?) building assaulted me. The owner yelled at the dog, but didn't apologize or even ask me how I was doing after this. He just went back through the side door they came from. Everything's run down. Old is fine and offers "character", but poorly maintained and dirty is different. Far too much neglect at F14. A much better airport is Kickapoo. It is very nice and welcoming and much more convenient to MSU and Wichita Falls. I suggest you avoid F14 and head for KCWC. I know I will from now on!

No one from "management" in evidence however the Self Serve pump and printer worked perfectly. There was a nice lounge with a phone and a local pilot to give me a free ride to town. It's hard to imagine what the extra $1.34/gal gets you at SPS.
