I have been flying at least twice a year to meet with fellow partners and corporate board members of our real estate business which is located in Tampa. We have been meeting in Memphis which is about a two hour trip for all of us. We decided to change the scenery a bit by meeting in Cincinnati this last weekend. It takes my buddies the same two hour commercial jet trip but would allow me to fly my Cessna 210 only forty minutes to get there. I flew into the FBO (Delta AirElite) at KCVG. I stayed three nights and was charged $60 per night to park there!! I complained but was told that that is a competitive rate. I told them that it wasn't. Just wanted to let any unsuspecting pilot considering this FBO to be aware of the high cost there.

What a great experience! I flew a dog in on a Pilots N Paws animal rescue mission, to get the dog on a cargo flight to Seattle. The folks at AirElite took me and the dog over to Delta Cargo, then came back and picked me up when I was ready. They then waived the $50 fee and did not require the 10 gallon minimum fuel purchase. They were very gracious and accommodating. I will definitely use them again for any stop in Cincinnati.

If you use CVG, plan to pay. Arrived in a Beechjet and had to leave the aircraft to what turned out to be an indication squawk. Aircraft ended up staying on the empty ramp for 6 days at 150 bucks a night. They waived 70 bucks for a fuel purchase. Also charged a ramp fee of 70 for the Baron that flew up to pick up the stuck crew. They were kind enough to waive the Bonanza ramp fee that brought the crew back and mechanic back to CVG as that aircraft needed fuel. I offered to fill the Beechjet on top off our 200-gallon order to offset the $800 ramp fee in any way. No joy. Ended up being a $2, 337 bill for all 3 aircraft. I asked for a power cart and they were going to charge $45 bucks on top of the $2, 337. Plus, we used their charter department to complete the original Beechjet mission. Line service was great and professional. Had to ask the housekeeping gal twice if we could use the lobby computer, not so professional. Go to Million Air Lunken, as they are reasonable.

Flew in Memorial Day weekend, staff offered reduced fuel after mid-night, shuttle to and from Orange line, and passenger escort to plane on departure.

Flew in today to pick up some people - nice to deal with, but expensive. Ramp fee of $35 unless you buy 10 gallons at $6.06 per gallon.

I would not recommend this FBO to any aircraft going into the area. Their fuel prices are high and customer service did not seem to be a priority. We were told that transportation could be taken care of upon arrival but it took 30 minutes to get a cab on the general aviation side of the airport. It was not a positive experience.

Sunday pleasure flight into CVG. ATC was very helpful and friendly into and out of class "B". Pulled up in my C172S and out rolled the red carpet! Very friendly line staff. Passenger friends had their rental car waiting and the line crew even went outside and started it up to get the AC going (90+ temp that day). I stayed and enjoyed the FBO until they returned. $25.00 facility fee charged, as I did not need fuel. No big deal considering it was nicely cool inside. Nice pilot lounge that has a separate bathroom/shower and a pilot sleep room. Vending area with sandwiches, canned fruit, chips, pop, etc. I asked about putting my plane into the hangar while I was waiting. Line crew said it was a $50.00 charge. A bit steep for the few hours I would be there so I passed on that. All told, a very positive experience and worth coming back.

I try to avoid the big airports when I can, if nothing else to avoid screwing up the flow of arrivals. When I do visit the BIG airports, I expect to pay a little more, and since I needed a rental car at 11pm, well, here I went to KCVG. Delta Air Elite was a great FBO, $40 facility charge for a single, reduced to $20 when I bought 10 gallons of avgas (with the high AVGAS price worked out about the same, but I didn't have to stop on the way home for fuel), they even took the initiative to place my bird in the hangar to "de-frost" on the cold morning of my departure--WITHOUT BEING ASKED-- and did not charge (or even try to charge) me for the favor. Line guys were also helpful with luggage. I paid extra (well my client did) for big airport service and I got it, so a good value in my book.... OVERALL GRADE: A
