Can't say enough about DKX. We stopped down on our way to Florida. The FBO was wonderful & helpful. Plan to stop there every time we come through.

Got stuck due to weather recently, gave us a loaner car and had a nice lunch downtown at Calhoun's. Brought the car back and waited for weather to improve. It didn't. The staff recommended that we call Sonny at Maplehurst B&B and that was the best. Sonny picked us up and gave us a very nice room at a very reasonable rate and included his famous breakfast. B&B was nearly full with a nice mix of guests. Next day he gave us a tour of Knoxville and a history lesson while he drove us back to the airport. Self serve fuel was reasonable, the natives friendly and the facilities nice. What more can you ask?

Stopped in on 2/11/08 for a quick stop for lunch. Fuel prices were the best in the region and the staff was very courteous. Even though we self-served, they still let us use the courtesy car. We will be returning again.....

Stopped for an overnight stay. I must say this is one of the nicest airports I have been to in recent memory. The lady behind the counter was super-helpful and friendly. There is Internet access from the FBO, and very clean and modern restrooms. I am told the downtown Holiday Inn is the only hotel that will pick you up for free. Even otherwise, downtown is only 3 miles away. I took the taxi on the way back, and it was only $8. Beware of the numerous tall towers (3000 MSL) north of the airport. This is an uncontrolled field, but during game season it is towered. There is a small portable tower sitting next to the runway. This information is not published on the sectional, so make sure you check the NOTAM.

I'm a Student Pilot in Fixed Wing, and Private in Helicopter. I Flew into KDKX, for a fuel stop. When I was planning my flight back, the FBO staff all helped me out the best they could! Real friendly staff, great airport, scenic perfect for soaring!!

I trained for my private pilot license at DKX in 2003. The airport continues to grow and looks very nice. I hope they add the aircraft hangars they desperately need.

We used this airport about 1 1/2 years ago. Same wonderful service and friendly folks. Reasonable prices and if you purchase fuel (either self serve or full service), you're given a free day of tie down. Thanks Kathi for helping make our stay very enjoyable.!

This is the place if you are coming to Knoxville. Good facilities, great people, and fair fuel prices. We have been landing here in a C-90A King Air for the past three years and it is the airport especially if you are attending UT ball games.

I am at DKX 3-4 times a month. It's close to downtown, has a great runway, facilities, and fantastic service. The 100LL price at self-serve is one of the cheapest around. If you have some time, enjoy some popcorn and a rocking chair with a view of the runway and have a chat with the friendly staff. They're great for pointing out places of interest and great places to stay.

This is a very convenient and friendly little airport and as the name implies it's practically "Downtown". Probably the best part was the FBO recommendation of the Maplehurst Inn Bed & Breakfast. This is a very reasonably price B&B located in an old mansion right in the heart of downtown Knoxville. This puts most of downtown within nice walking distance. A car just isn't necessary because Sonny will come out and pick you up for the 10 minute ride to his B&B. Overall, both airport and B&B are very convenient.

My wife, son and I flew in Knoxville Downtown Island Airport Friday at lunchtime for a night. We loved the atmosphere and it was a great location in relation to the city. It is a very self-service airport in terms of where to park because no one greeted us and we tied down our own plane. That part doesn't bother us but while tying down, the ropes were nasty with black that got all over me. It was the first space backed up to the old control tower. Other than that, we loved the airport.

We stopped at KDX to refuel. The woman staffing the operations desk was extremely friendly and helpful. My wife and I were having second thoughts about continuing the flight (WX issues) and asked her about local hotels. She gave us several suggestions, including a local B&B. She called the B&B proprietor who came out to the airport and picked us up. Not wanting to sound like an advertisement, her suggestion was an excellent choice. The lineman quickly filled my aircraft and repositioned it to a spot that he could tie it down. He treated the airplane like it was his own, as he moved it. Knoxville is such a great town; we are staying a second night.

The FBO at Knoxville Downtown Island is one of the best in Tennessee. The staff is always helpful and courteous. The facilities are always clean and neat. The airport has easy access to anything around Knoxville.

I thoroughly enjoy flying in and out of Knoxville Airport. The staff is always courteous. DKX is the best little airport. If you ever decide to fly into DKX, you are minutes away from some great restaurants along the River, UT's stadium is just minutes away. This is a must see... Make Knoxvile part of your next waypoint

EExceptional airport facility. Flown into other facilities... None compare to DKX. Billie, Gloria, Dustin, Darrell, & Justin go above & beyond the call of duty. They are ALL very much service oriented. They treat you like family...I have never had an unpleasant experience at DKX.............

The friendly faces of KDKX were an encouragement to me as a student pilot and now as a regular at the airport. The prices on fuel are always fair and the wonderful popcorn and coffee are an added treat. Our community is fortunate to have this facility.

Every time I have gone to Downtown Island Home, I have been very pleased with the facilities, staff and overall airport experience. It is a wonderful airfield, one that I hope to fly to one day, instead of having to drive there all the time. Keep up the great work!

Nice facility, extremely friendly and helpful staff. And free popcorn! What more can a pilot ask for? Even helped talk my daughter to the airport when she got lost in Knoxville, since the exit I told her to take was closed.

I flew in to KDKX on Thursday evening and left the following Monday morning. The airport has a great location in downtown Knoxville and is very close to many local attractions. The FBO did a fantastic job. The entire staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this airport and FBO to anyone visiting Eastern Tennessee.

First time landing at the airport...A little difficult due to my inexperience...But make it ok and enjoyed Knoxville for a few days. Avgas a little higher than Zephyrhills but altogether not so bad...Be back soon... Larry

What a great FBO! Helped us load our stuff on a golf cart and took us to our car. Everyone was very friendly. Rocking chairs and picnic tables out front make for a great small-airport atmosphere. Highly recommended.

While pumping gas I was impressed by the new equipment at the self-serve pump station that seemed to make the job of filling up the airplane just a little easier than before. When the temperature is 20 degrees and wind blowing, every little improvement is important. Thanks.

I visit Downtown Island on a weekly basis and have always found the staff friendly and courteous. The linemen and office staff are always willing to lend a helping hand with just about anything. The fuel prices are among the best in the area. The pilot lounge and FBO are always clean and well kept. Highly recommend making this a stop on any cross country flight.

This is my home base. Transients, this is a great airport. It is modern and clean plus it is in a beautiful location and fuel prices are very competitive. New management is doing a great job. Although we have a close-up view of downtown Knoxville we're like a country airport. We don't have a lot of jet or turbine traffic. Our old crew car has been replaced with a much more modern mini-van. Dozens of nice restaurants within a few minutes drive time. Make this your stopover point on your next cross-country.

Stopped in on 11/22 to pick up a passenger and found this to be a very nice stopover with very inexpensive fuel. The only issue is that the Self Service pump did not take the MultiService card although indicating that it did. This is a very friendly airport with great access to Knoxville and is a very good alternative to KTYS. Services at KTYS are also great.

Outstanding service! Flew in for Tenn/Alabama football game. Went out of the way to give me hangar space on a very busy weekend. Two computers, one normal internet access and one WSI. Friendly staff, good fuel prices, and nice facilities. Highly recommended.

Excellent service. They had the rental (Enterprise) ready as promised. Provided excellent baggage service to car via golf cart. Recommend this for a stop to visit the area/Smokey Mountains.

Absolutely gorgeous view of downtown and the river while on approach. Self-serve credit-card fuel system works great. An old-fashioned steam train went by while we were fueling, blowing its old-timey whistle. Nice touch! The extremely friendly and accomodating staff lent us a very memorable (in a good way) courtesy car for lunch. Such a cool airport!

This was our first time to this airport and it was a very good experience...Everyone was very friendly...The tie down was waived with a fuel purchase, and the staff helped us find our rental car...Not a very busy airport and has no tower, but is very close to downtown and about 25-miles from Pigeon Forge.... We would be glad to go back and will again...Thanks to The Staff for A Great Experience....

Flew into DKX for a 5-day stay. The airport was very convenient to our destination, and Hertz dropped off a vehicle for me before my arrival. Fuel was expensive but not too bad considering the convenient location. Tie down fee $4/night.

The approach into DKX is one of the prettiest and the airport looks to be very well run. The staff was friendly, helpful, and prompt. I highly recommend this airport to any flier passing through or staying in Knoxville awhile.

We were greeted promptly with directions to parking spot. Advised the SS fuel was better deal. FBO desk arranged for nice B&B nearby with free ground transportation. Very enjoyable overnight stop.
