Stopped in on a ferry flight from Maine to Texas in a 170. Airport facilities were excellent and the stop was a quick turnaround. FBO was nice and the people were friendly. Knoxville approach was also very easy to work with. Nice airport and I will stop here again if in the area.

Excellent FBO- clean, friendly, and exactly what airports ought to be... Well worth the stop, and a great deal on gas too.

Excellent! This gem of an uncontrolled public airport is nestled in the hills and trees alongside the TN River. Downtown Knoxville is very close by and visible from the runway. The FBO staff is very friendly and helpful and the SS fuel prices are the lowest in TN. Overnight tie down is free with a fuel purchase. Highly recommended!

If Hertz is closed when you arrive and/or depart, beware!! My car was NOT delivered prior to arrival (as Brad at Hertz had promised) and I was charged more than the online reservation originally quoted. On the other hand, FBO staff is very friendly and courteous.

Flew in for a HDB (Hundred Dollar Burger) and got the free courtesy car (for up to two hours); drove to the other side of the river to Calhoun’s on the River. Wonderful place to eat! Very nice place - the airport, the city and the restaurant.

Great airport, stopped here because of proximity to where we were staying. Airport employees were very helpful. I booked an Avis car through AirNav's link and found that, in hindsight, to be a mistake. My car was not at the airport upon arrival. The airport indicated they did not have good luck with Avis and typically recommend Hertz or Enterprise. The airport went above and beyond to help me get through to Avis to figure out what to do. They also offered to contact Enterprise late on a Friday to work out an alternative. After multiple calls, Avis agreed to pay for a taxi over to the commercial airport. A fellow pilot instead took my family over there, but it took longer to sort out than did my flight from STL to DKX. As consolation, Avis did upgrade my car for the trouble.

Corporate piston pilot. I have been in to DKX several times for business trips. Service is good and the facilities are great, not to mention the great scenery on the visual approach. If you will be arriving/departing after hours, be sure to get the gate code from the FBO, as the gate to the island is closed.

Arrived Thursday afternoon 04/14/2011 as a planned fuel stop which turned out to be an overnight stay. When we went into the FBO Gloria met us, we explained our problem she was on the phone calling hotel's for us arranged for a shelter for our plane, once the plane was secured for our stay the cab that Gloria had called for us was waiting to take us to downtown. We left Sunday morning however our departure was held up almost 2 hours due to fog, Gloria was to the rescue once again she provided fresh coffee & muffins. Overall our stop at KDKX was a great experience I would recommend this airport to anyone.

Flew into Downtown Island to watch a University of Tennessee baseball game. Gloria offered the "as new" van for a couple of hours. Beautiful & inviting lobby with cookies & HDTV. Scenic airport & short distance to downtown Knoxville. Great Sunday afternoon.

I regularly fly into DKX with students to meet pilot examiner Jerry Rasmussen for checkrides. This is a beautiful airport with friendly staff, nice facilities, and inexpensive self serve fuel. Very convenient to downtown and home to Remote Area Medical's DC-3. Great airport all around.

Flew in on 9/12 for a short stay with a student. While waiting on a passenger my cell phone became dislodged in the very comfy couch and did not make it back home in the aircraft. Everyone at DKX was extremely helpful and Dustin made sure that it returned back to me promptly. I will definitely be back. Thanks again.

Great experience with FBO and the crew. Landed here for a Pilot and Paws event, and the folks were generous with their prices and to accommodate all our aircraft - even on a game day.

Spent about 6 hours at DKX yesterday. Nice airport & facility, no outrageous fees and reasonable jet fuel price. Loaned us a crew van for lunch. Just bought some courtesy fuel and relaxed in the pilot lounge. Good folks. Highly recommend DKX.

Friendly people. I arrived on a Friday before a Saturday UT football game but they claimed there has been room to park even on game days. Parking is $5 per night with one night free if you buy fuel, either full or self serve. When taking off to the west and heading north Departure will keep you on a westerly heading until you reach 4000' because of the antennas on the ridge to the north I think.

Flew to Downtown Island Home on Saturday for the first time. The view of downtown is spectacular and the short fieldwork was great for my confidence. The Budget Rental car was ready for us on our arrival and the facilities are clean and the people are friendly. The self-serve pumps work well and $3.68 per gallon was a good price. A word of warning, on hot days watch your density altitude departing on runway 26. I would suggest departing on runway 08 in with a slight tailwind. The homes and bluffs off the end of 26 are very close and steep!

DKX is a great place to stop for fuel -- or if you have business in downtown Knoxville, which is a short 5-minute drive away. The people here are extremely friendly and helpful. The ladies at the front desk arranged for a rental car coordinated with the helpful and knowledgeable line staff to hangar my Columbia 350 overnight, fuel it up, and have it out on the line exactly when I asked for it to be there. A nice fireplace and rocking chairs in the waiting area adds to the experience. The approach gives a great view of the city, and the island runway is itself very scenic. Will definitely be back.
