I retract my earlier negative comments regarding the FBO service. That one bad day was a fluke. I have since flown in several times to KLBX and I have been given great service from the FBO every time since. That includes a cheerful willingness to bring the credit card receipt to the restaurant. Great FBO. P.S. Restaurant food remains better than ever.

Flew into KLBX in my Cirrus. The FBO is NOT customer service oriented. I parked the plane next to the restaurant (reopened and better than every) and asked the FBO to fill the plane with fuel. I asked them to bring the credit card receipt to me - some 30 feet away - at the restaurant where I was eating. They filled the plane but made me walk 1/4 mile down to the FBO office to sign the receipt. With this kind of poor service, I would have been better off getting the cheaper self serve fuel. I would have had to walk about the same distance but saved some money.

Restaurant is still closed. A new lease has been signed but no word on when it will re-open. LBX isn't the place to buy low priced fuel anymore. Several other airports in the area have lower prices. This week the fuel is even higher than it is in the DFW area.

Landed there in May 2011 for a short break. Discovered that the FBO and hangar has been leased to a private company and the old transient ramp is now reserved for their use only. The "new" FBO is in a portable building south of the restaurant and there is no signage pointing to the new FBO location and parking. There is a sign on the side of the portable building that says "FBO" but that is the only evidence of the relocation. We also discovered the restaurant has been closed for over three months. Good place to practice landings and approaches - no longer a good place to stop.

The new runway and taxiways are VERY nice! The FBO was closed (I see their hours are posted as 6:30pm and I was just after that) with no one in sight. On past visits, I have to agree with the comments below about the flight planning and crew lounge facilities - big opportunity there. The Windsock restaurant on the field was hopping on a Friday evening - almost all of the crowd local. I've never tried it, but my non-flying friends said it was well known by local non-flyers. When you consider that it's not the most convenient place to eat from town, it must be pretty good for the locals to drive out.Response from Jeff Bilyeu, Brazoria County (FBO) Restaurant and FBO Update: The County FBO operation has moved and is now located on the south side of the terminal area in temporary trailers close to the fire station and the self service avgas pump. Hours are unchanged. Old FBO building has been leased to a new private tenant. Restaurant shut down approximately 2 months ago and after some cleaning and updating of the building interior, the County has begun the process to solicit proposals for a new operator. We hope to have a new operator set up and open in the next 60-90 days. More updates soon as more information becomes available.

The runway is under reconstruction so all instrument approaches and the chase lights have been shut down. The main taxiway has been set up as a runway during the construction (paint and lights) so we have about a 5000' x 50' VFR only runway for now. The restaurant and fuel pumps are open as normal. The project is supposed to run until July 2010 Response from Jeff Bilyeu, Brazoria County Airport New Runway is OPEN! Runway 17/35 is now concrete (grooved) 7000x100. 4 box PAPIs are installed for each runway end. Taxiways are getting a slurry seal and new paint, but all should be complete around July 2, 2010. ILS flight check is currently scheduled for June 24, 2010.
