My wife's side of the family recently had a reunion in Marion. I flew in to KMNN and stayed for a couple of days. There was no tie-down or ramp fee. One of the two FBO's has closed so there is only one now. The airport was not busy and we saw very little traffic during the time we were there. The person on Unicom directed me to the parking area and then came out and greeted me. When my son and I were stuck at the airport (bad weather at OshKosh so we could not fly out), the FBO provided us with a loaner car. It was old and rusted but it did the job, we were allowed to keep it overnight and there was no charge. The people we met (as well as the hangar dog and the two hangar cats) were nice and helpful. It is a small town airport with a laid back country feel. The runways were in good shape and plenty long for our Mooney.

Flew into Marion today and went to Baron Enterprises. I had called yesterday to reserve the crew car for four hours in the afternoon and was told it would be OK. After arriving today, I was allowed to use the car, but was told that I should make other arrangements from now on and that the car could only be used for very short periods of time. I had them top off my plane and I topped off the crew car for them. If they didn't want me to use the vehicle, they should have let me know when I talked with them over the phone yesterday and I would have made different arrangements. I didn't think that it was right to OK it the day before and not when I arrived. No big deal, but I don't think that I will ever use Baron again or recommend them to anyone. It is too bad that this seems to be the norm at a lot of small airports.
