Friendly airport and friendly town. Had help with fuel, the courtesy car, and IFR procedures - the 122.1 guard frequency doesn't seem to work so you have to call clearance on the phone. Great lunch at the Blue Cow - like many college towns Big Rapids has interesting restaurants. Fabulous place to stop.

Beautiful facility from the wide open runway to the modern and very clean terminal with numerous pilot amenities. The area is very nice as well - tubing on the river, 90 miles of bike paths and friendly people.

What's not to love? Brand new hangar facility (opened 2/2011) with room for a couple more King Air's. Clean, comfortable terminal building with homemade cookies. Self-serve/assisted fueling at reasonable prices. And, a crew car that is a 2011 model with under 600 miles. Mike came over from his home, on his day off, when he heard me come around on base. Helped me chock the plane, and even plugged in the heater while I was at my daughter's sports camp. Can't say enough about how well we were treated and the courtesy we were extended. Will stop in any and every chance I get.

Stopped just before OSH (around 22 July) no tie downs are available. Explanation is the snowplow got all the tiedowns but they will be replaced this summer. Since severe weather was alleged to be crossing Lake Michigan after soaking KOSH they offered to put me in a hangar, which I was glad to accept. They even came out after hours to open the hangar (Clean T-Hangar). Cost was $20 but I slept better knowing the airplane was safe. Staff here very friendly.
