My son began flight lessons at Superior during his senior year in high school. To date- four years later, my son and I have earned both private pilot and an instrument pilot rating. The owners and staff take serious their pledge of quality training, exceptional customer service, well-maintained equipment and above all uncompromising safety standards. When it came time to purchase an aircraft, Superior's guidance was on target for our needs and abilities. Two additional items of note are the Flying Club and Fly Outs. This past year, I have flown to the Bahamas twice, once with a Fly Out and on a second occasion with family. The Fly Outs provide a structured format for building skills, acquiring confidence and using your license for more than "flying the pattern". I highly recommend the school and staff.

When I left the cockpit as captain of a major airline, I need someone to teach me how to operate safely in the general aviation world. I chose Superior Flight School and I'm glad I did. If you are looking for one of the best flight schools in the Southeast US, look no further. As an aviation insurance broker, I insure flight schools all over the country. You won't find better. Superior Flight School will train you to professional standards, and help you continue to improve your skills far beyond just getting your ticket. They will teach you how to fly safely, staying out of trouble rather than getting out of trouble.

Superior has the cleanest and best maintained fleet I have seen in 15 years of renting throughout the Southeast. The instructors are well experienced, patient and a lot of fun! Scheduling and dispatch are simple and based on common sense procedures. I would recommend Superior to anyone and look forward to being their customer for a long time to come.

I began my pilot training a year ago at Superior and have nothing but good to say about the quality of the people, the training, and the equipment. As one of the many fliers mixing training with business travel I can especially appreciate Superior's flexibility and competitive rates. I talk with other pilots and students all over the country and if there's one thing I'm sure about, the education I'm getting is top notch.

One of the two co-owners called me in response to my comments. No animosity, he simply wanted more information. The fact that Superior followed up on my comments shows they do have strong concern for the quality of a customer's experience. In fairness, I do feel that my experience may have been an anomaly. They do have a good reputation in the area. If I lived closer to the field I would probably give them another try. I want to reiterate that their flight instruction definitely was of excellent quality.
Response from Joe Gravalec, Superior Flight School We received an email from Mr. Casey on August 27th requesting to be removed from our flying club because the driving distance from his home to the airport was "1.5-2 hours one way". We complied with his request immediately. After reading his comment (posted almost 2 months later), I pulled his file to conduct some additional research. I found some inconsistencies between his comments and our records. I am always disappointed if someone's experience with SFS does not meet their expectations, therefore I called Mr. Casey this morning and spoke with him for 30 minutes about his experiences. In fairness to Mr. Casey, he did have some legitimate issues that have been addressed. In fairness to SFS, there are some things he mentioned that were not accurate as well. While we freely admit we are not perfect, we do take this business seriously and continually look for ways to improve. I thank Mr. Casey for his comments. It is from discussions like this we are able to learn and improve.

My experience at Superior was mixed. Some staff was very friendly, some rude. Some of their planes are tough to find. Their flight instruction was good. I faxed all requested ID three times, still presented it in-person because they lost my faxes. They have simulators available, which is helpful to maintain instrument currency. I tried renting four airplanes: only one was legal to rent. One had compass & AI non-functional; one was past hundred-hour inspection; the fourth was down for maintenance. Each time I drove 45 minutes one-way for no reason. They require renters to complete a short quiz - several questions on the test did not apply to the plane I wished to rent, a couple of multiple-choice had no correct answer... I showed these to the CFI checking my test; he said he'd correct them. A month later they were still not corrected. I felt a LOT of pressure to sign up for their flying club at my first visit. I received several emails weekly, advertising for-pay classes & seminars.

Superior Flight School is a competent, professional business with a very well maintained fleet. The instructor I flew with was knowledgeable, friendly and an excellent pilot. I've rented planes from many places, and Superior is up there on the list from what I've seen. The only thing I find a little disappointing is their policy on airplane rentals. Make sure you bring a birth certificate or passport, or you will not be able to fly their planes solo. While the TSA requires this for students in training, Superior extends it to all people who rent their aircraft. I disagree with this policy. I am an American citizen, and I find the TSA policy distressing, much less it being extended to me. I've never encountered this policy anywhere else, and I don't see how it would improve safety in the least bit. I have all the credentials to legally fly in the US, and I worked hard to get them. Producing additional documentation seems a little invasive to me.

Very focused towards safety. Instructors are very knowledgeable, professional and friendly. They always make time to answer student questions. About 10 hours into the program and very much looking forward to working with Superior to obtain my VFR and IFR private pilot's license. Highly recommended.
