Arrived to eat at restaurant on Sunday about noon and was parked promptly and courteously by lineman. Found out restaurant had closed a week earlier. Lineman offered us their courtesy car and the friendly Stacy at the front counter made it available. I didn't require any fuel but wanted to help the FBO for providing the courtesy car. I purchased a mere 16 gallons of fuel and later the facility fee of 60.00 (wow I didn't know it would be that much for a 310) was waived. I paid an inflated $6.00 a gallon for fuel. Overall it was a good experience and the FBO personnel were terrific.

I agree with Mr. Bedell and it is not just happening at St Augustine. At many of the smaller airports, the ATC towers are manned by contract controllers and they ARE NOT employed by the FAA. Most contract controllers are former military but not all. Some are very good, some are bad!! As a result, in many cases customer service just went away!! Yes, ATC provides customer service even when they keep us from flying into each other. They are there for us, not the other way around. I have many good friends that are FAA controllers, they agree but GA pilots can also do their part by maintaining good quality radio skills. Fly safe and listen up.

Good rating based on fuel price alone. The rest of the experience left much to be desired. Arrival into SGJ was circuitous and burned much of the fuel I could've saved by going elsewhere. Sequenced behind a Cessna on a 12-mile final! I was in a Baron. S-turned the whole way in. Tower sequenced another Cessna too close behind me and lectured me for not getting off on a taxiway that was occupied by preceding Cessna--sheesh! How was I to know that the taxiway was wide enough for 2 light airplanes. Ground was busy and I couldn't get a word in till I was on the parallel. He lectured me about the Cessna 1/2 mile away that I should've given way to. Sorry again. Pump #2 of the self-serve located under my friends in the tower pumped 1.4 gals in 5 mins. Abandoned that pump and with the help of Navion pilot at pump 1 pulled the Baron forward to pump 1. Thanks, and beautiful Navion you have! There's a picnic table and a soda machine outside in front of bathrooms and that's all I could find.
