Went there for dinner today. Comfortably busy, but the staff was attentive. Food was good, especially the iced tea. We walked from Kim Davidson aviation (on the West end of the airport) and it was pleasant.

Been there quite a few times. Good food, good service. I'll be back again. One of my favorite places to eat.

01-18-2008 They were closed between lunch and dinner, so we did not go in. They were displaying an "A" Health Dept grade.

Well, my wife and I enjoyed our last visit but it seems as if things are not going as well for Spitfire. On my visit on 11/16/07, service was slower than I would have expected. Perhaps it was my casual attire compared to the more "dignified" customers. Food was ok but that is about it. Also, they had a "B" in the window from the Health Department. Too bad as my previous visit was making me think this could be a regular lunch stop.

My father and I were led to a table and sat down. We were given high-gloss menus with not only food choices, but also information about the history of the restaurant on them. I enjoy the atmosphere of this restaurant, which, was started by a prosperous young Air-Force Lieutenant when Douglas was still flying the famous DC-3s out of the, then bigger, Santa Monica Airport. I browse through the menu, and, ironically, picked the 'Cherokee, ' the type of aircraft I fly. This enormous sandwich was a turkey melt with fresh roasted turkey, melted cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, and the Spitfire Grill's signature horseradish mustard all on a couple of lightly toasted pieces of sourdough bread. My father orders the 'Hangar, ' which is a Chinese chicken salad with the traditional mandarin oranges, won tons, and Asian dressing plus some extras like red ginger and the original house chips. I enjoy the restaurant atmosphere, the airport atmosphere, and the great food.

Took a lunch trip today and enjoyed the place (great service). I got the Eggs Benedict and my wife ordered the "Flying Tiger" burger (bacon, cheese and BBQ sauce). Her burger was cooked a bit more than the "medium" she ordered but I will be happy to give them another chance. Neat airport and the controllers are VERY good at handling a bunch of traffic even when the winds change 180 degrees.

10-27, another great meal at the Spitfire Grill. This is the place to eat at SMO. A quick walk out the driveway, turn left 200 yds. Eat in side or out. The patio is great in mild weather.

I really enjoy eating here. They have good food and a friendly atmosphere. The Learjet, a roast beef French dip, is very juicy. I highly recommend it.

Dinner was a blast! Typhoon was closed for the holiday, so we left the plane and ventured across the street. Good move, since I had enjoyed lunch there several times before. Big surprise at the great dinner menu and lovely evening air. (Why was the sky greenish after sunset?) My pax and I enjoyed the Caribbean crab cakes, sumptuous spinach salad and seared ahi entrees.

Nice food and service. Busy spot for both breakfast lunch but service is fast. Nice patio but unfortunately no view of the ramp or the runway. Spotted aviation writer Barry Schiff.
