What a neat airport. I stopped just because I saw there was an on-field restaurant. There were six Citabrias outside the FBO. Had a great breakfast at the restaurant. Fuel prices were low. There were lots of neat planes around. What's more to like?

This airport should be on EVERY pilot's "must-see" list. It's got everything you could want: loads of interesting and unique airplanes, friendly pilots who live in their hangar/apartments on field (including Steve McQueen's old hangar), a tasty on-field cafe, lots of friendly dogs, and a rental car operation right across the street. Do note that the airport is unlit, so night operations aren't authorized.

Cheapest fuel within at least 100 nm, always! Love the restaurant. Good FBO and lots of good mechanics. Lots of neat airplanes on the ground and in the air almost always. Pay attention to the landing pattern instructions in the A F/D and no straight in!

The Santa Paula Airport was a fabulous experience. The 100LL self-serve is typically the cheapest in the area and the natives are friendly. Sit outside at Logsdon's Restaurant on a warm afternoon and enjoy the sounds and sights of a busy part of California's aviation history. The FBO, CP Aviation, is where you can load up on charts and get that taildragger rating with highly qualified instructors. On the first Sunday of every month the hangar doors swing open, bring your camera.
