Tehachapi is a gem in the mountains. Fuel is cheap, and it's a quiet, nice town. Of course, you need to consider density altitude but other than that it is a great place to stop for food or fuel. If you feel like a great BBQ place, then forget about the Apple Shed and go across the street to Red House BBQ (it's almost worth the flight up just to eat here). It has a great atmosphere, service, and you can even eat in a teepee! It's about a quarter mile walk south from the airport. I will certainly visit this airport again.

Pilots, Shhh, please. This is still our little secret. Just 80 - 90 nm from the LA Basin. The fuel this week is $5.05! Then a one minute walk north leads you to an awesome pilots' lounge. This place is First Class, spotless clean, and for free! Bathroom includes a shower. Kitchen is fully stocked. The fridge and freezer have what you want and on the honor system! I just keep coming back, over and over.

Great fuel stop! Tom, the manager, was not present, but returned my call, and was most friendly and helpful with good local info. We will definitely stop here again when our travels take us along this way.

Would have given them an "excellent" if someone from airport administration had posted the new auto access ramp code change here at AirNav. No longer "4000." To enter the ramp OR to EXIT, you now enter "2135" on the keypad. Thanks to TWO nice ladies who clued us in on two different below freezing days with 20+ MPH winds. It would have been a long walk to the outside parking lot from the transient aircraft ramp carrying baggage without that access code. Thanks to the friendly residents.

Arrived on a Saturday afternoon & though the city staff was off I was greeted by 3 gracious tenants in the span of 20 minutes. On Monday I found the city staff equally gracious & often asking what they could do to improve their airfield facilities. I camped out on the field & never was wanting for a thing--shower & wifi are in the terminal, local stores & restaurants are within walking distance. Plenty of local attractions to visit. Also spent a night at the BW Mountain Inn who sent a car to pick me up. Trains running between airport & town also blow their whistle during the night.

Really great little airport. Excellent pilot lounge. Four big comfortable chairs, Internet access, continuous display of local winds etc on a second monitor, nice kitchen, and the bathroom even has a shower! And no landing fee or ramp fee for day use. Only $5 per night. Density altitude warning on the AWOS and big digital sign at the end of the runway with density altitude. If you don't climb fast, you'll have to circle to get out of the bowl, but that's no problem. Fuel was as noted on AirNav. Will definitely be back. Short walk to Apple Shed. Enjoyed it.

Recently flew to Tehachapi Muni airport and met the manager Tom. You simply cannot find a better advocate for the private flyer than Tom. He was eager to provide me a ride to my hotel (La Quinta) and provide tour direction around town for which he is a justifiably proud and an enthusiastic proponent. Tie down fee waived with fuel purchase. Good food is close by.

Flew into TSP today. Have not been here in a while. Used to be one of our Sunday morning breakfast spots. The Village Grill is still a great place. Stopped at the Apple Shed for a look around before leaving also. Lots of snow around from the recent storms but had a great ride up from POC. Even though no one around at field it was still easy to get in and out. Fuel price was as listed ... $4.10. Will enjoy coming back.

I just wanted to echo the friendly comments about Tehachapi airport staff. I stopped on a trip from the Bay Area to Death Valley. The gas price was as advertised. The office staff directed me to the famous Apple Shed for lunch and was very helpful. I used to stop at Big Bear, but with density altitude concerns and higher fuel prices, and a not so dog friendly environment, I'm making Tehachapi my new pit stop.
