Beautiful airport that is greatly improved since our last visit 10 years ago. The runway is in terrific shape, right traffic for 20. Helicopters as thick as flies when the cruise ships are in port (five where then on the day we arrived) but really no factor. The choppers fly in swarms of 3 to 5. Nice tie down ramp west end and east end of runway but bring your own ropes. 100 LL fuel available from barrels from the fuel terminal just across the street from the "air terminal". We didn't get any but if the fellow was telling the truth it was only $3.16/gal (he says they get it from Canada), they will run their forklift over with barrels and hand pump it into your aircraft. Skagway is one of our favorite places.

There is no 100LL available on the field. Skagway Air operates a fleet of Cherokees out of Skagway and buys fuel elsewhere. They do have some barrels of fuel available for their own use for certain trips. This is a great little airport & it would be nice to have self-service fuel available.

We are flying to SGY next week. I phoned the airport manager and he said Fossil Fuel has closed and Petro Marine 907-983-2259 now handles fuel. They have a truck.

I stopped in on September 23 2006. The manager told me he was closing the following week (selling the business). If you are planning on stopping in, you might want to check and see if they opened back up.
