Windwood is a fantastic place for that fall get-away location. Visited Oct 2-4th, and the staff of Windwood and Amelia's restaurant were great! Food is fantastic and very affordable! Can't wait to return and see the area again. Joe, airport manager is great and provided us with more than we could ask for. Keep up the great work!

Flew into Windwood for the weekend with a group of about 18-20 pilots and 9 planes. First off the owner Joe Beam and his staff could not have been more hospitable and accommodating. This is a down home place that makes you feel like your an old friend come to visit. Runway was adequate, road crosses about 1/4 of the way down so need to watch for crossing vehicle traffic. Road is in clear view and you will see the few vehicles that may cross from a safe distance. Approach to 24 is over 60-70' trees but aiming for the displaced threshold got us in with no problems and plenty of runway to spare. 24 slopes uphill but we had no problem at all getting out in a PA 28-140. Chocks for parking are in a gray milk carton at parking area. No tie downs but there is a cable so bring ropes and tie down to cable. Can't say enough good things about this place. We will be back.

As a followup on my February 11th experience, the management at Windwood Fly-In Resort has taken the initiative to contact me and apologize for my family's trying experience. I take this as a sign that they may be interested in improving conditions for visiting pilots and their families. Be advised that you still need to bring your own tie-down ropes to use with the cable that lies along the ramp.

I suppose I have the lone bad experience here. Flew in on the 11th of February for some cross-country ski fun. Strip was plowed well, however the tie downs were not cleared on the ramp and unusable. No transport to Amelia’s where we were to pick up a rental car. Remember the worst beat up crew car you ever borrowed from an FBO? Well it is this type of car that is the "rental" car for $25/day. Battery was dead so a kind gentleman offered a jump-start, as there was no help from the lodge staff. The lady behind the desk was nice enough, but she had no idea where any of the ski facilities were. If I ran this operation, there would be MANY changes to help transient pilots. Don't expect too much when you arrive and you will be OK.
