I arrived at noon in my RV-7 at this famous grass strip in the mountains of Idaho 26 nm east of McCall and departed the next morning. What a great place! Although one of the easier Idaho mountain strips to get in and out of, you still have to be comfortable flying close to mountains and trees and be mindful of mountain flying: density altitude, your aircraft's performance, wind, etc. That said, it's certainly doable -- ten planes were there while I was. A wealth of information about flying in is available on the Internet including standard operating procedures and many videos on YouTube. The very wide and smooth grass strip is nestled in stunning scenery. There is a scenic hike up to Warm Springs. Johnson Creek to the south is beautiful and probably has fish if that's your thing. The facilities are amazing for such a remote place: hot showers, fire pits, a courtesy car to go to the small town of Yellow Pine a few miles to the north, bikes, even Wi-Fi!
