Flew in with my kids for a lunch and quick swim at the beach. All was good until I learned about the $25 landing fee. The fee was on top of the $65 that I paid for the hamburgers. When I questioned this double charge, I was explained that the FBO has nothing to do with the restaurant, besides that they share the building. Well, if I don't land there, I won't eat, and for $25 I won't land there regardless how good the food might be. Next time I'll get a taxi from MVY right to the beach.

Stopped in for a few hours in early Aug. Food at the cafe was good with a great view of the field on the deck. The place was full and it was great. We ran into town for a few hours and rode the bus around. It was a cheap and fun day adventure. I look forward to going back again someday!

"The spirit of aviation" ... That's what comes to mind when thinking of Katama. It's an immaculate field in a beautiful location, thus making this a truly unique destination for any pilot. Where else can one land on a choice of 3 2500ft+ grass runways and park the plane right by the beach? We routinely make 1/2 day beach trips to Katama, simply park by the beach, cross the street, and one can combine sun, sand, swimming, and flying - all in one afternoon. Their restaurant on the field is excellent as well if one wants to throw in breakfast or lunch. The field itself is in pristine conditions and the local FBO is very friendly and helpful. We'll be back soon and often.

As soon as you have enough hours to comfortable do a turf landing, you should journey out to this little gem. Our DA40 has a little longer (low) wingspan and the taxiways aren't mowed quite wide enough for it, so we picked up a few grass stains on the ailerons on the way in. But it is worth it. The diner (The Right Fork) is great. Our group had burgers, floats and salads. All delicious. The parking wasn't outrageously expensive. AirNav doesn't have a diagram of the field, which is too bad. We parked by the diner, but there's another parking ramp that is steps from the sand of South Beach. We walked out there instead and swam for two hours. It was fantastic.

This is a wonderful airport to visit. You must come here at least once in your life, when you do you'll wonder why it took you so long to get here. The restaurant on the field (Right Fork) is worth the visit alone. Breakfast served until 1400 so we had the Greek breakfast wrap including scrambled eggs, feta cheese, spinach, mushrooms and olives, which made all the difference, served with home fries. Great friendly wait staff and the place was nice and clean inside and out where we ate. There are great views of aircraft TO & L from the restaurant deck and South Beach is just a few steps away.

July 20, 2009 Flew into Katama for a day on the Island and on the beach. What a great grass roots airport. Easiest self-service pump you will ever use. Off or ON, that's it! Fuel prices and prices at the airport restaurant were very fair, I thought for on the Island. The busses come right by the airport. Ride all day as many times as you want and all over the Island for $7.00
