Very hostile to GA. I didn't have reservations, but I was flying through the area and had never seen the canyon, so I thought I would shut down, walk up the canyon, snap a photo, and leave. I walked around for a few minutes, and wasn't allowed even close to the fence, so I decided it wasn't worth the effort and it was time to leave. As I walked out to the airplane, I was stopped by a guard who told me I would have to pay an outrageous landing fee. No way, no pay. I hate to sound bitter, but this is not what I expected from any airport. No service at all, but they want you to pay. It's a beautiful airport, but if you go there don't stop!

We went and had no issues. I called Unicom 7 miles out, the winds were calm and the tour operators were landing 17. When in Rome! After landing I asked Unicom where I could park for the day and was quickly directed to parking. Parking was $20, not $100, but it was waved with the tour ticket purchase. Why else would someone land there? I did expect to pay a lot for the bus ride, Skywalk and other fees, $69 a person, but we had a great time. The employees we dealt with were polite and happy to help. Personal items such as cell phones, purses, cameras are not allowed on the skywalk but they do provide lockers. We spent 5 hours there, saw everything and had a great time!

Flew in there this weekend. I was caught off guard that I might have to pay $100 to land at the airport. However, when I checked at the counter, they sort of shrugged and said don't worry about it. (So I didn't). Make sure you call ahead to find out what their attitude will be when you show up. We did purchase a shuttle ticket and went the skywalk and Guano point (Guano point has the better vistas). Definitely worth visiting if you can get the fees worked out. This is why we fly right? (FYI.. Would have taken about 3 hours by bus/car.. Only 35-40 mins in a C-172.

This airport is hostile to visits by private aircraft. The owners cater to tour operators. No services. No guidance. No published information. Nobody answers any of listed phones to provide prearrival briefings. Then the operations people wait until you've parked and shutdown before wandering out tell you that you are parked in the wrong area, and move your plane immediately. And buy your tickets right away or you will be hit by a very large 'handling' fee. Not worth the pain.

Flew in after reading an article on the place but didn't investigate thoroughly. Although the cost for the catwalk is a $25 add-on to some packages, you can't buy that alone. The minimum it will cost you is $75 per person to walk the catwalk. This includes a decent lunch buffet and other things we really didn't have time or want to do. Read their website package descriptions carefully.

Did not go to West Grand Canyon/1G4 to experience Skywalk, as their reception on phone was non-existent with lousy attitude and service. I also determined their prices are exorbitant on top of outrageous landing & handling fees and transportation charges. Elected instead to fly the route around Grand Canyon, which was fabulous.

Friendly staff at the airport. They will waive the $100 landing fee if you buy a tour package of the skywalk or other attractions. Very heavy air-taxi usage. No aviation services provided. Efficient shuttle service and decent food. The skywalk is one of a kind. Breathtaking approach on the canyon rim, but the canyon winds can beat you up, and the potential for wind sheer is pretty high.

This airport is the home of the new Grand Canyon Skywalk, due to be opened to the public in March 28, 2007. The shuttles to the Grand Canyon West lookouts are immediately outside the airport area. Private vehicles are not allowed to drive to the canyon rim. Visitors park near the airport and purchase a $50 shuttle package that includes bus transportation to the rim and lunch. The 4800' runway is currently being expanded to 5280' to accommodate jets. According to the new onsite airport manager, $100 landing fee for all aircraft is due to be implemented by the end of February 2007, however, it is waived upon the purchase of at least two shuttle packages.
