What a beautiful mountain valley! Sleepy airport with surprisingly high gas prices... What appears to be the terminal is a staffed tourist info center with lots of info (and restroom). Approach requires planning, as field elevation is well below the nearby ridgelines. Best route is from the East, following the river through the valley. Reverse for climb out. Plenty of room to climb out as long as winds favor RWY 6... Departing 24 would be daunting...Terrain climbs rapidly. Taxiways had lots of stones thrown by the mover.. Look carefully and think about back taxi instead.

Flew in on a hot summer day; was over 100 degrees F. Kept the plane extra light for performance purposes and was glad I did. DA must have been 7000'+. Plan to land 24 and depart on 6. Simple place, not much going on. Town seemed to have a few restaurants that were open on a Sat PM, but really not much else there. Beautiful country up there.

Great little airport, had breakfast at Morning Thunder, easy 10 minute walk to town. Great easy stop.

Visited in June and again today (07/27/09) Excellent breakfast at the Morning Thunder Cafe (under new ownership & new phone) which is an easy walk from the tie-down area. Dinner at Cafe Le Coq was superb. A great town and area to visit. Did not buy fuel. Heads up for air traffic as departures and arrivals use the same route.

Nice stop, good fuel prices! Walked to town and had lunch but most everything had closed at 2:00 (Saturday), just before we got there. Very pretty area.
