Called ahead to secure a tie down for the Memorial Day weekend. All tie downs were taken upon arrival, though, and the general manager (Bill) insisted that they hangar us at no charge. He pre-arranged that we would call him at his home for departure when the FBO was closed on the holiday. He arrived quickly, and assisted us in returning our rental car to its off-field location, and towed our preloaded aircraft out into the rain. He refused all attempts to compensate him for his above-and-beyond efforts. Springfield Flying Service is a super example of what makes General Aviation great!

Stopped in to 3DW to visit a relative in the St. John's hospital. Airport is in very good condition; beware ridiculously high gas prices. $5.27/gal 100LL while just 30 min north or east I found places selling for $4.27 and $4.11 respectively. Pay-at-the-pump is nice though when airport is closed on Sunday.

Flew into Downtown just yesterday whilst building hrs / XC flying. Only went in to stretch my legs and say hi, but was made to feel very welcome (cookies appreciated) with very friendly people all round. Had a tour of a beautifully restored T34 in the hangar as well. Would recommend as an alternative to more mainstream airports if you're looking to drop in somewhere.

This airport is a good fuel stop. Decent fuel prices and the airport is in good condition. We managed to land there before the FBO opened up, so we had to pump our own fuel, which was just fine. A fun little place to visit. One more thing. There is a very tall tower on the northeast side of the airport. Use caution, especially when flying at night or IFR.
