Dick is doing a wonderful job there. The airport is so clean and generous.

Stopped At Clare, Michigan (48D) both to and from Oshkosh this year 2007. Great self serve fuel prices. Clean restroom and pilot briefing area. Will use this airport whenever I'm in the area. Thanks to the people providing this nice airport.

Flew my Archer II in on a leg of my summer vacation. We were treated great! Friendly FBO. These people really care about the little guy. There were gloves to help keep hands clean during fueling. Waters were complimentary at the fuel farm. FBO was very comfortable. We will make this a fuel stop every year!

Stopped there twice on a coast-to-coast cross-country flight. Very impressed with the manager, the hospitality and we appreciated the clean facility. I can recommend staying at the Dougherty Hotel. They were very accommodating and provided transportation. Good to know should the courtesy car be gone.

Landed on 7/28/06. Greeted with icecream on a hot day and a good price on fuel. Dick is a great manager. Clean airport and FBO. Highly recommend refueling at 48D.

I've flown from the Detroit area to Cadillac for years and never stopped at Clare. I WILL NOW. Affordable fuel, (relatively speaking of course) and a VERY NICELY appointed self serve fueling area. This is my GO TO stop from now on.

Still great 100LL prices. Landed Sunday around 1130, ...Someone called my gear down and locked on unicorn freq, but when we got to the FBO was deserted! Nice, cool and clean, I just was hoping for the famous chocolate malt(s). Oh well. I'll be back.

On 7/7/06 we had the pleasure of arriving at the Clare Airport. The fuel area was great and had everything needed to self serve our plane they even had oil, bottled water, gloves not to mention the low gas price. The FBO was spotless including the bathroom and showers. Met up with another couple from Tennessee and took the courtesy van into town for lunch. Stopped at the Fifth Street Diner had great food and service - prices were very reasonable. Dick should be given a gold star for dedication to Clare's Airport and the City of Clare. He should go around and show other FBO's how to operate an airport. Thanks for a great time.

Great place to stop for fuel and other amenities listed by numerous other postings. Very friendly people when I stopped on 6-25-06 complete with malts for son and myself. Will definitely stop again.

From Donald Blitz on 05-Jun-2006
Our flying group flew to Clare for lunch. Courtesy van into town. Best GA airport in Michigan. Airport manager couldn't have been nicer or more helpful, even gave us his pickup to take the extra people to the restaurant. Hope to get back many times this summer.

From Rick McClanahan on 04-Jun-2006
Had a tremendous stop at Clare on June 1 on my way to the Annual Cirrus Migration to Duluth MN. I too was greeted with fresh baked choc chip cookies and an authentic "malt" milkshake! Clean facilities and friendly atmosphere added to the great experience, if you are in the area, this is the place to stop.

From Ward Montgomery on 30-May-2006
At fuel pump: 24/7 credit cards; cheapest gas in Michigan today; free bottled water in fridge; gloves for clean hands while fueling; oil for sale on honor system. In terminal bldg: wx computer; antiseptically clean toilets; showers - your towel but FBO furnishes toiletries; free choc malts and ice cream, free popcorn. VOR-A approach. 48D has it all. Stop here for the best GA airport.

Took my son(9) and daughter(14) to Clare on April 9th. The only reason they went was because I told them there was free ice cream and cookies. When we walked in Dick Acker asked the kids what they wanted. My daughter had never heard of a malt so Dick let her help make it. My son had a large custom-made chocolate sundae. Dick's wife Nicki made a fresh batch of cookies while we were there and these were great. The hospitality, ice cream and cookies truly make this place stand out as one of the nicest airports to visit in Michigan. Good fuel prices, too!

The welcome mat says it all. It's a runway leading right in the door. If you've made your position reports 10 miles out, you are greeted by the fragrance of a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie! Smiling Airport Manager, Dick Acker will ask, "Do you want your cookie on top of your scoop of ice cream or underneath it?" Acker has paid attention to detail and the comforts of home. Even the sparkling restrooms have interesting aviation memorabilia. If your appetite is craving more than a cookie, an airport courtesy car is available for a run to town for a real meal. Whether you fly "out of your way" a little to take advantage of Clare's rock bottom fuel prices, or fly to 48D to get your "hundred dollar cookie" instead of your "hundred dollar hamburger", the aviation ambiance and great vibes make it worth while.

All I can say is amen to the comments below. Was there for the first time today, met Dick and confirmed that this is a place to go just for grins, let alone the ice cream and cookies! By the way, there's chocolate syrup, too!! They even have flood lighting for the ramp that is PCL operated. Great for night stops.

Flew in again Sunday evening to use the courtesy car to run and get some supper on a beautiful evening. They were as helpful and accomodating as usual.Keep up the good work.

Great stop! Self service fuel too!

This is the small general aviation airport that all others should take note of... Fantastic!

From Dave Finamore on 04-Jan-2006
Visited last August but forgot to post a comment. What a great place. We stopped for fuel and ended up spending two hours talking to Dick and his wife. Our kids loved the free ice cream (ok, we did too), Dick had me flying the IFR simulator, and the other amenities are just as good as everyone else said.

This has to be the best unattended airport anywhere (and probably better than most attended ones)! First: we saved enough on gas to eat lunch on the difference it would have cost us to fuel up down the road at Mount Pleasant. Second: it is absolutely new and clean. The bathroom has a shower in it and if you forget your shaver, soap or anything: there is some of it there for you to use. The self service courtesy car is a clean van in good shape parked under an awning (it keeps it cool for us!). The self service gas has the following amenities: gloves to keep your hand clean, a gasoline tester if you forgot yours, two ladders, window airplane cleaning foam with special soft towells, some tools and a couple of quarts of oil (self serve and self pay) in case you need some. There is even a tool box if you needed to fix little things. You have to be there to believe it. Whoever runs this place: Thank you!

First rate in every respect. Stopped by for some very reasonably priced fuel and my passenger remarked "the restroom is cleaner than the one in my house."

From Greg Hemingway on 23-Jun-2005
Dropped my son off at the Boy Scout camp north of Clare. Nice courtesy car arrangement (keys in terminal with pilot access lock). Missed meeting Dick and the free ice cream. I did find the complimentary water bottles in the fridge at the fuel pumps (never seen that before!) and the windshield cleaning supplies. Kudos to Dick and the airport association on a benchmark facility.

From Clark Slade on 19-Jun-2005
Clare Municipal is one of the most pilot friendly and just plain friendly I have ever seen. Dick really has the pilot and passenger in mind with the way he has set the place up. Fuel price is very low. It's worth going out of your way for.
