Twilight unplanned stop due to weather. Doug was the only one around. He was very helpful - got me to a hotel. As others noted, you'd be hard-pressed to find a higher self-serve price, but the pump works great. Don't fly over the nuke subs next door.

Jeff has done the annual on my 1967 Cessna 182 for years. He is honest and always a lot more reasonable than other local shops. He is very knowledgeable about my aircraft. Always helpful with tips about maximizing performance, and flying. Not all mechanics are pilots, so Jeff's knowledge base is great. I wouldn't take my plane anywhere else.

We made a fuel stop with two experimental seaplanes and decided to RON due to wx at our home base. It was a windy, rainy Sunday and the airport was deserted. We called for a rental car and no one answered the phone. Same results for a cab. Then we called the number posted on the door of the office and got Jeff Stanford on the line. He said he would be out in five minutes. He showed up in less time than that and in a few minutes we had our planes under cover and were driving off in an airport car. Wow! Great service! Jeff is what small town airports are all about. You may pay a couple cents more for fuel, but you can't beat the service and "can do" attitude. We will be back.

I dropped into 4J6 last week for a fuel stop and weather check on my way to Sun-n-Fun last week. Great place to stop if you like paying full service prices for self serve. Absolutely no other services that I could find such as a weather briefing room, etc. Save your time and money and stop 25 miles north.

I was reminded today of the helpfulness of FBO operator Jeff Stanford. Three years ago, today, Jeff came to my rescue when the aircraft I was a passenger in crashed off field. Jeff saw our difficulty landing and the prop strike and followed us down the runway, climbed a perimeter fence crossed a road, climbed a 10 foot barbed wire fence, through high underbrush and crossed a 12 foot canal to rescue the pilot and me. He provided first aid and stayed until rescue personnel transported me to a trauma center. I'll go out of my way to hang around with or buy fuel from Jeff at his FBO! He's a top-notch person and excellent aviator. A great example of what we should find in all FOB's.

Stopped in after hours on a Sunday doing an Angel Flight mission. I wouldn't recommend this airport to a novice at night if only because of the TFR 1/2 mile northeast, and the airfield lighting is poor at best.

I fly all around the SE USA, visiting every kind of FBO & airport out there. St. Mary's Aviation is your typical all-American small-town FBO, and we loved our first stop on 4-28-2006. I'd already called the day before to arrange a taxi, but then forgot to call the cabbie before we launched from Fla. No problem - when we landed in a rush to get into town, Jeff simply offered us the crew-car. Got our business done, stopped in at local Subs place (Wal-Mart plaza, can't remember the name, "Lou's" or something, the best subs washed down with good old glass-bottled IBC Cream Soda), and back to the aircraft all within an hour. Self-serve Fuel was just a tab higher than but nothing unusual since auto gas was up 25 cents in the past few days. Runways good, St Mary's folks friendliest you can find, and the FBO helped out when we needed them. What more could you ask for from small-town America? We'll be back!
