Nice little airport but unattended. Ramp is small so count on parking on the grass and bring your own tie-downs. The island itself is more geared toward boaters, day trippers, and campers as there isn't that much to do on the island. Stayed at the Old La Point Inn (a poorly redone 1870 farmhouse) and were given a ride from the airport by the innkeeper. If you stay, avoid the Old La Point Inn! Dirty & run down with rummage sale sensibility is the best way to describe the place. At least we had clean sheets after washing our own. There are a few good restaurants including the Bell Street, "The Pub" (where we saw the innkeeper working her regular job as a waitress), and Grandpa Tony's for ice cream. The waterfront is a great place to watch sunsets. There are also two small grocery stores. Took the ferry to Bayfield and went on a boat tour. Also rented a tandem bike and rode over to the beach at Big Bay State Park. Overall worth a visit but is the "poor man's Mackinac Island".

By the middle of August we found the courtesy bikes to be in sad shape. Using the phone in the airport office, I got the La Pointe Chamber of Commerce @ 747-2801. They in turn told me of two restaurants that would drive us to and from their establishments for lunch; the "Pub" @747-6322 and the Bell Street Grill @ 747-2700. After eating we took the ferry to Bayfield ($4.75 one-way). It was a good day.
