We have stopped by this airport several times. The folks here are a delight, friendly and helpful. Getting into town is easy; a shuttle is available on Saturdays. If you come on a Sunday, someone will always stop and offer you a ride. Be sure you take the boardwalk through the forest down to the coast, its nice quite piece of beach to get away from the world and just enjoy. The price of their gas, who cares?

Very friendly airport. Stayed at the Beaver Island Lodge which has excellent food and beautiful views from the restaurant and the rooms. Quaint little village. Wish I could have stayed longer.

Chose to land there on our first trip to this island because the Beaver Island Lodge said it would be closer to pick us up at Welke's than at the Beaver Island Aiport. We were met on landing by Paul and Angel Welke -- the owners of the airport. After tie-down they offered to take us down to the lodge and on the way they toured the town for us indicating where to eat and what not. They also offered a courtesy car for our stay which they delivered the next day at the lodge. We fueled up but I forgot to check what the gas price was because after this kind of service it did not matter at all. We hope to be back.

Nice folks at Welke. Will stop here again if going to town. 27/9 has some hills in it. Sue at the FBO called the local shuttle and that took us in to town. One dollar a head. Surprised that Nextel worked there.
