After finding this same NOTAM about the airport being closed, I wondered if it was a glitch and talked with Ella Frank. She explained to me that the airport was sold about a month ago. I spoke with the current caretaker of the property (who doesn't know a thing about airports) who told me that the property is currently up for lease, that the airport is open (despite the NOTAM), but that there are no services available and the field is unattended. The gist of our conversation was that the airport will be closed by year's end if no one steps forward with $$ to get it going again. Very sad - it was such a friendly place to visit.

Was all set to go. Then saw on DUATS that the airport has been closed by NOTAM since February 2008. Check FSS or DUATS before going. Bummer..... :(

Ella and Art Frank are the best. They agreed to stay till 6:30 on a Friday to give me a lift in my hotel and then I ended up being a half hour late and they waited for me. I highly recommend stopping by this airport!

We flew into Maxon on 8-15-07 for a day trip to the thousand islands. Maxon is located just a short ride from town, airport staff will drop you off and pick you up for the 12.00 landing fee. The airport closes at around 5:00, but they cheerfully loaned us the airport truck so we were able to stay downtown as late as we wished. We topped off the truck on our way back to the airport. We could not have asked for nicer service. Runway 24 has a large pothole aprox 1/3 the way down on the left half, stay to the right half and you will miss it. Runway 6 is closed by notam for the first 600 feet and we were advised by the staff during a prior telephone call to avoid that portion of 6. Airport staff related they were working on getting things fixed, so call ahead and maybe they already have it done. Fuel is not self serve so be sure to fill up as soon as you arrive or have enough to get out again. All in all a very friendly, enjoyable airport on the doorstep to a terrific recreational area.

Great stop and refueling. I land there for refueling and clear customs. One thing, the facility doesn't have credit card service for fuel. If you land there later, you cannot refuel. Check ahead. Great service! Met nice people at Maxson. Keep the great work.

Made a Day trip with girlfriend in on May 21st, 2007. Great experience. Even though the owners were out of town, and no one was staffing the airport at the time, a friend of the owners (I think first name Greg?) Came 10 miles from his home just to pick us up and bring us into town. Later that day he picked us up again and brought me to my plane! He even showed me the weather that was in the area! VERY FRIENDLY AND HIGHLY ADVISE GOING TO THIS AIRPORT! Thanks!!!
Response from Ella V Frank, Thousand Islands Aviation Services I would like to thank our pilots and families. It is so nice to get your wonderful comments. I enjoy meeting all the wonderful people that use Maxson Airfield have a happy safe Summer thank you Ella

Just spoke with owner. He said his fuel is 4.75 gallon for 100LL. He also said his landing fee has been $12.00 per landing for the last six years.
