I recently thought about renting a hangar at E14, but soon realized doing so would be a mistake for one simple reason: lack of facilities. A viable, attractive airport is more than just a place to park an aircraft. Much like a home, an airport is where a pilot needs to base his operations at, e.G. Pre-flight and post-flight, routine maintenance, weather and flight planning, and hanging out with fellow pilots or sharing with folks outside general aviation. Unlike a car, a lot of time is spent doing these activities before and after the actual flight. Therefore basic facilities and amenities are critical: water, trash, sewer, electrical, heating, along with aviation specific things like flight planning and weather capabilities. Currently there are no bathrooms, no potable water, and no flight planning or terminal facilities available at E14. As yet E14 is just a storage facility, not an airport where pilots would want to call home. Improvements are being made, but it's not yet an airport.

Ohkay airport has come a long way over the years. New self serve pumps, good fuel price ($5.65), and nice runway, mostly fenced and electric gate access. If you plan to tie down, bring your own straps because the chains are inadequate and too short for a high wing.

Ignore NOTAM saying windsock is OTS. That dates from July 2010, and no one has bothered to remove it. However, the windsock is fine. Great airport for student practice of touch and go landings.

Airport has undergone extensive renovation recently. Runway, taxiways, and ramp have all been resurfaced. Both 100LL and Jet A are available self-serve at the lowest prices in the region. No FBO or other services on the field though.

This airport has a card reader to dispense fuel via MasterCard, VISA, or Phillips 66. Call Anthony at (505) 927-6609 with problems or to verify availability prior to arrival.
