Very nice friendly people and good facilities made this an ideal stopover for us. We had mistakenly taken the keys of the crew car from the day before with us and the shipped them back no question asked. Great service!

1 Nov.: Return stop in the Super 18. Thought I might arrive a little late and asked LuAnn if someone would be around or if I should look at other options. She asked when I would arrive and assured me someone would be there or could be called (without a callout fee in this case--I would recommend checking just in case) and gave me Bruce's cell phone number. I arrived at 6 pm and Kyle was there and was waiting at the fuel pump when I arrived. There are some airports with cheaper self-serve fuel but stopping at Austin is truly a treat!

Stopped here once last fall (not by choice). Our university flight team was on its way to Dubuque when we decided to land due to deteriorating weather all around us. The building is accessible by code and we found it extremely clean and well kept. Kyle stopped out and told us it was ok if we spent the night (at night, the motel across the road looks sort of sketchy--in the daylight it looks like it is probably quite nice). George the airport dog greeted everyone in the morning with sloppy kisses and a wagging tail (LuAnn and Bruce are friendly too). 22 Oct, stopped in a Super 18. It wasn't far out of my way but it's worth the deviation if it is. Quick service to get fueled, and Bruce helped me push the airplane to a tie down where I secured it and inquired about lunch. I was immediately offered the airport courtesy car and told to take my time. LuAnn gave me lunch ideas and directions. George has sadly passed. He will be missed!

Nasty thunderstorms forced us to land short of our destination at Austin. As we taxied in Bruce came on the radio and asked if I'd like hangar space for the duration (yes, please). He pointed to a car, told us where a good restaurant is, gave us his cell #, and said, "When you're ready, call me and I'll open the hangar and help you get going. There's a motel across the street or take the car to another one or all the way home if you need to." We ate, came back, called him, and he came back well after hours, fueled us, and we finished the trip. Great, friendly, service!!

I happened on this place at the end of an EAA chapter meeting and met some of the nicest gentlemen I've found in a long time. I wondered why the runway was so long until I taxied by the big Hormel hangar - wonder what's inside? This is a great airport.
