May 27, 2008 Interesting place. Seems to be a feud going on behind the scenes. The desk clerk at the FBO sent us to a place in town for lunch and it was awful. The cafe right on the field, as I came to find out, was super. It seemed like she was under orders to steer people from the cafe in the terminal. Too bad. Refueling went well, but there was no power cart for engine starts. An airport this size should have several GPUs. There is no crew car and we were shuttled over to lunch in a pickup truck by someone connected to the awful restaurant. The pilots lounge and flight planning were out of the early 70's and this airport FBO is badly in need of updating.

Went for a long XC from Lansing MI, stopped here for fuel. I stayed long enough to eat, which was a very nice pub. Very reasonable food and staff. I will visit here again.

FBO now under different management and operating out of temporary facilities in the building housing fire trucks beside the commercial terminal to the North. Rental cars available in the commercial terminal.

Response from Chuck Koukoulis, President KCI Aviation
I would like to clarify something. The FBO is not under new management. The airport authority rejected our high bid for the fueling operation and kept the fuel and FBO services for the airport to operate. The sign should reflect the new name of the line service operation not imply that our business is under new management. As a result of this action West Virginia's last and only full service FBO no longer exists. Our family has provided the FBO services here since 1951. We will concentrate on aircraft maintenance and avionics work. Our core business is business aircraft maintenance. Check out our website for more details. I would like to thank our patrons. It has been our pleasure to serve you for all these years. Regards,

Everyone in the facility was pleasant and helpful; restaurant in the terminal was OK. Pilot lounge is still one three-cushion couch, T.V now works but all channels are "For ordering this channel contact...." Unless you want to watch home shopping network you are out of luck. During the course of the day at least 3 other crews were wandering the halls looking for a place to sit.

Friendly people to work with, place really needs a crew car as the "lounge" is very small and has only one sofa to set on in a small room.

Landed 9:00 P.M. October 11 due to approaching thunderstorms. Received great service from evening line guy, including finding hotel rooms, a shuttle, and an offer for a free hangar since I was topping off. Next morning, they charged for hangar. With customers behind me, I questioned it but didn't put up a stink and called later in the day. Steve Sellis promised a refund by check - never arrived. Phone messages left for Ken Reed, Flight Support Manager, were never returned. If an employee makes a deal - you should really stick with it. Why ruin what would have been a great write up for $35?

My wife and I performed a precautionary landing at CKB with a rough running engine due to one cylinder running exceptionally hot. KCI could not have been more accommodating and efficient with their service. They immediately started working on the engine, during their lunch break, and found a bad spark plug. Not satisfied, the mechanics continued the diagnosis and found the source of the problem, a clogged injector. During all of this, the president of KCI, Chuck Koukoulis, introduced himself and showed us around the hangar and treated us wonderfully. Chuck had 2 mechanics working full time on my plane, with at least 4 others helping out at various times. They allowed me to watch and even seemed to welcome my input and worked with me to formulate the diagnosis. They all worked hard to get me back home in time for dinner with my very patient wife. I enjoyed meeting all of the guys at KCI and would recommend them highly.

Diverted to KCKB for weather. ATC was friendly and folks at KCI were very friendly as well. Decent weather and trip planning room. Staff had a smile on their faces and was helpful to us in our little old Warrior. Fuel price was $4.07 as advertised.

Had to wait out some weather so diverted to Clarksburg. The fuel was very expensive, There wasn't a courtesy car, Couldn't get the receptionist off her cell phone long enough to pay the fuel, and the TV in the "Pilot's Lounge" didn't work...

Great service and reasonable fuel prices. Made a stop here on the way to the Staggerwing Museum at THA. Convenient restaurant on the field and nice facility. Will stop there on the next trip!

Had to divert to CKB for weather just past dusk. Place looked deserted, but the lineman fueled my C-172 and called a hotel shuttle and I was set with a room within 20 minutes. Thoroughly professional and courteous outfit.
