Flew into KCMA over the weekend. The Airport was extremely busy, I could barely get a word in the mic! The Waypoint Cafe was busy as well. I had the tri-tip sandwich which most people recommended...It was great! They put a special sauce on the bun that kicked it up a notch. The potato salad was good, but a little too pungent. The service was great aside from the fact that dehydration can and will set in seeing that you will not get a refill on your drinks... Huge runway and threshold fun to land on! Will go back.

Be sure to try the delicious new ahi sandwich --- the wasabi sauce is great! And the potato salad alone continues to be worth the trip.

During my recent commercial training in and around Simi Valley and Ventura, my instructor and I would frequent the Waypoint to debrief or just shoot the breeze. Like my visits years ago, I had a wonderful experience every time: they're quick to wait on you, quick to serve and fair to price. Sunday's at KCMA, when clear, can bring a ton of GA planes to the ramp just adjacent Waypoint. When I was last there, Nov 25 2007, KCMA Taxiway Alpha was closed for repairs/resurfacing. This made for a long [7-10 minutes] wait to depart, as a/c taxiing to depart had to hold short F @ G3 for arriving aircraft, then taxi down F to B. Check NOTAMs

Based on the comments ... We stopped in for a late lunch on our way to the LA area. The food was fantastic! And, I learned to fly in the area (SZP ... My instructor brought me to CMA to learn how to land on the "big runway") so it was great to see the area again. When did they stop growing strawberries & plant all them houses???

The best reason to go to CMA is the tri-tip but you need to arrive before noon or they might be out, oh and they only serve it on Wed, Sat and I think Sunday. Wed and Sat for sure. It is always a good time to fly in to CMA the tower staff is friendly and very helpful. If you have a choice leaving the area I suggest a right turn out (north) then go east if you do a left turn out (south) you end up right on the approach to Oxnard.

Very friendly tower staff. Busy cafe. Slow service (you might want to refill your own glass). Our hamburger was bland. Will go back and try the French dip that looked very good.
