This is a good airport to use if you want to mitigate high crosswinds or avoid a control tower. KEIK sits in a slight depression, so even with strong crosswinds 30 feet above ground, they are less upon touchdown. The AWOS is quite helpful to know current winds. (The crosswind runway 9/27 is closed.) There is no courtesy car available, so be sure to have transportation already figured out. There are lots of good restaurants in Lafayette about 3 miles southwest. Note that if you take off on runway 15, be sure that your plane will climb out over rising terrain--a highway and homes are to the south. Not everyone has made it when hot or heavy.

Flew my Comanche to Erie to visit friends on 8-16-09. Nice hometown airport, close to everything in the northern Denver/Boulder area. Easy access to unload baggage & friendly staff. Fuel was reasonable & staff went out of their way to tow my bird to the pump the next morning. This was my 2nd stop there & I will be back!
