Going to the Chattanooga area and want to miss the hassles of KCHA? This is the airport for you. Friendly, down home folks. No red carpets. Turned out that manager Chris is from our hometown in North Carolina so it was old home week. A word of caution: The Enterprise office that services FGU is in Chattanooga and service is not their long suit. Most of the desk agents have no idea that there is an airport in Collegedale. With persistence and patience you will eventually get a car at a reasonable price.

Diverted here after finding our planned airport fuel stop (KAPT) was closed for fuel. It was around 6 p.M. And the place was deserted, which was understandable, but the self-service fuel pump did not work. It wouldn't take any credit card for any amount. The area had just been hit with storms and deadly tornados so maybe that was the problem, but we had to hop over to KCHA just to get gas.

This is a clean, user-friendly airport. Why the designator has been changed is a mystery even to the folks at Collegedale, who were informed of the change by another airport! There's a real rollercoaster built into the runway that gives a doozy of an optical illusion, but it really is "do-able." Fun place, friendly people, and, btw, Collegedale is the home of Little Debbie Snacks. Make sure you stop by the factory outlet for some goodies before leaving! But not on a Saturday. Closed due to being Seventh Day Adventists.

This could be the best run small airport in the country. Chris Swain (Director of Airport Ops) was very helpful getting me in a hangar to avoid a classic TN thunderstorm. Very clean and comfortable facility. I had always used CHA before but will use 3M3 from now on.
