I was driving on I 35 and spotted a PA 38 on final so I followed it to the airport. The staff is very friendly. I was impressed with the city terminal. Looks like a much nicer place for the average GA driver to land than AUS. There is a museum of sorts with old radios on display. I hate seeing stuff I used to use in a museum case! Next time I fly myself to the area I will use Georgetown for sure.

Great airport! Easy to get in and out of. Dual fuel pumps for easy refuel and nice flight planning area. I stopped on down the taxiway at Awesome Aviation and picked up some pilot supplies (maps). Nice fellow who runs it (Quinn). ATC's are helpful and easy to work with.

GTU Tower is now staffed and open part time. Check Notams. There is not much for them to do now with fuel at $4 and traffic has decreased/stabilized from two Austin Airports closing years ago. They plan on a 7 am to 11 pm schedule eventually. Hope they take a good book to work or have a television for entertainment. Going to be lots of dead time!

The tower will open around October 15, 2007. Check the NOTAMS!

We flew into GTU for the TEXAS-ASU opening football game. The staff was friendly, fuel was very reasonable, and the facilities were nice and clean. The manager even gave us a lift into town as it was closing time when we arrived. Great alternative to AUS. Tie down ropes in need of replacement so I'd advise taking some if you go. BTW, tie-down cost $4 per night with first night free if you buy fuel.

The ATC Tower is finished but manning it has been delayed until OCT 07 due to a lack of funding by the FAA we are told.

Stopped here because Signature, the only FBO at Austin-Bergstrom (KAUS), has become downright oppressive to GA visitors with ramp fees, tie down fees and extortionist fuel prices. Gas here at the main city-run terminal was self-serve, but was convenient and the price was great. Service was efficient and friendly in the terminal. Enterprise car was delivered right to the terminal door with paperwork left at the counter. A courtesy car is available for shorter visits. Lots of student traffic at this field, but it's still a far better choice than KAUS when visiting Austin in a light aircraft.

The tower is up and the cap is on. Contractor is finishing up on building aspects with installation of interior/radios etc. To begin soon. Expect on-line in July. :>)

The first 40 ft of the ATC Tower is up and they are completing concrete structure inside. The second section, 20 feet, has been poured on site and they are welding up the Cab structure. Quiet a sight to watch it all built here. Flying appears to have picked up as fuel prices drop, $3.20. Suppose to continue to drop slowly, expect $3.00 1 Nov. Still a mix of aircraft, be careful. Be extra cautious when driving or parking near the Tower construction site at the Terminal. There are large trucks, cranes and many vehicles moving about.

The hole and base for the ATC Tower has been completed. The concrete work on the pre-formed sides started this Labor Day week end. There still seems to be a steady increase in jet, turbine and helicopter traffic. The rest of us just visit our hangers and tinker.

From Bill Hoglan on 06-Jul-2006
The ATC tower is now under construction for GTU. (Many ridiculous delays by the city and its system). Not that it is needed much any more. It will be located just east of the terminal about 100 feet. With the price of fuel way up and the general conditions of the economy there is not much flying here. Maybe it will be open before general aviation is dead completely. We do continue to get more turbine/jet traffic everyday and the helicopter traffic is unpredictable. So keep an ear to the speaker and eye to the sky.

Be advised that the building is locked and there are NO restroom facilities accessible after hours, and the FBO closes well before dark. It would be extremely helpful if access to restrooms could be provided when the FBO is closed.

GTU is a fairly active airport and nicer than most. The management has done well in making it neat and clean. Traffic is still mixed. There are more straight in GPS approaches by faster aircraft than in the past. More helicopter traffic than GTU deserves. Keep alert and fly friendly. The ATC tower still has not been started, one city delay after another. CTAF 123.0 is sometimes covered up by other central Texas airports, so listen up and repeat if you think you were stepped on. Remember open space for emergencies is east of the field or a few miles north.
