First time in was last month. Outstanding!! I still like MDW but going to have to consider GYY from now on.

From Steve Post on 06-Oct-2011

Visited Chicago via Gary Jet Center in our 172. Josie (customer service) was very helpful when I called before departure from YIP. She arranged for a rental car to be waiting for me right at the FBO. Very friendly first rate service for a private pilot. Purchased fuel, so no other charges. Smooth trip, will visit again.

Stopped here for a few hours on an Angel Flight mission. The linemen and front desk staff were very friendly and helpful! A beautiful facility with nice folks makes this a nice way to visit Chicago! They also were thoughtful enough to give me a discount on the fuel since it was an Angel Flight mission - Thanks!!!

From Ken Bolvin on 22-Aug-2011

Good alternative to MDW. MDW fuel is $2/gal extra and they have a landing fee, fuel flowage fee, and handling fee. GYY is not as convenient but with the money saved from not having all those fees and higher fuel cost, you can rent a car to drive to Chicago and still be many dollars ahead. And Gary Jet Center had excellent service as well.

I recently came into GYY in an 182R for a quick overnight trip to downtown Chicago. I thought I had missed the train and resolved to taking a cab, but Dennis quickly got me settled and whisked me down the block to the train stop. He gave me the rundown on the train and even waited until it arrived. $5.40 and 45 minutes later I was in downtown Chicago. Train was clean, cold (it was 88 outside), and on time. Fuel was reasonable for the area, about $2/gal cheaper than Midway. They had the plane ready to go when I arrived to depart, offered ice/weather and Internet computers with a printer, and overall a nice facility with friendly folks. I'll be using them for any returns to downtown Chicago.

Didn't need fuel, but they treated us very well anyhow. Went up on Friday June 17th and again on Father's day. Small landing fee ($10). I will gladly go back when I need to.

From Larry Kudelka on 12-Mar-2011

Arrived in the evening and the line crew was very attentive to our passengers and gave the crew a ride to the hotel. The next day, they were too busy to pick us up from the hotel. When we found out our passengers were an hour early, the line crew hustled to get us fueled and on our way. Overall great service.

From John Bleakley on 29-Nov-2010

Edit to my comment, I just looked at my fuel ticket, and fuel was pretty reasonable after all. :)

From John Bleakley on 17-Nov-2010

Flew in on November 13, met by two line guys, helped us with luggage, couldn't have been nicer. The weather on the other hand was ugly, cold rain, fog, and all the good stuff. We departed on November 16, plane was pulled up, fueled and ready to go. We had friends pick us up for our trip to Chicago, it's convenient to downtown, about 30 minute drive. Fuel wasn't cheap, but much cheaper than Midway. We'll be back.

Customer Service Manager, Josie Traficante, offered to drive my daughter to the train station, and then stayed with her while she waited for the late train, which my daughter and I really appreciated. Service above and beyond by Ms. Traficante!

Great facility, great people at the desk... A top notch FBO.

From Jeff Weller, N41639 on 18-Oct-2010

I had a really good experience here. We were offered to take the courtesy car into Chicago for the afternoon but chose to take the train instead. The train stop is a mile from the field and the FBO not only dropped us off at the stop, but also picked us up as well at no additional charge. There was no ramp charge, either (bought $100 worth of fuel). Oh yeah, the fuel price is really reasonable too. The train into the city is $6. Everyone here was just awesome.. Thanks!

From Brian Goss on 04-Oct-2010

We visited this FBO two weeks ago in our Lear 60 for a trip we had to Chicago. I can't recommend this FBO enough. We had a great experience while visiting their facility. From the customer service agent to the line staff and maintenance crew, we received excellent service from all departments. The fuel price and hangar rent was the best in the area. We will be back.

From Lyle Pahnke on 27-Sep-2010

This is the only FBO to use for my Chicago VFR Venues. They have been consistently helpful, take me to train to city (5.60 one way) and pick up. No ramp fee with fuel. I was stranded due to weather one night and the Flight instructor John offered to ferry the Warrior home for me and return the rental car. Can't beat that for service. I give them 5 stars for the little guy. They go out of their way to make it happen. Excellent facility and friendly people and also the tower personnel are helpful.

Can't say enough nice things about the folks at Gary Jet Center. The staff (and I single out Josie) are terrific and make getting in and out of Chicago a breeze. For me, it's the only FBO in the Chicagoland area.

From Jeffrey Kyff on 21-Mar-2010

Great experience at Gary Jet Center this weekend. It’s really nice to see an aviation business that understands customer service. They drove me the quarter mile to the train $5.50 each way and picked me up when I got back. Pay on the train. Millennium Station is the last stop about 40 min away and is 2 blocks from North Michigan Ave. Closer than taking the EL from MDW. Also stops at the museums. Opposite end of the train line is SBN, which would make a great alternate if Chicago were socked in. Just hop on the same train that goes by GYY and you still get to Chicago.

From Jeff Schnabel on 19-Nov-2009

Once again, a great experience. Best option to go to Chicago. Classic cab charges $60 to go downtown.

From Terrence Miles on 02-Nov-2009

I am based out of GYY because I want to be here. It is a great place with great staff. They are right there with fuel of with MX assistance. I have many other choices in the surrounding area. I can also say it is safe, and clean and well staffed. I have a small private airplane, but big fancy biz jets are here day in and day out and with good reason. It's about a 30 min cab ride to the heart of downtown Chicago.

From Jean-Francois Reat on 27-Oct-2009

This place is great. Easy in/out of Chicago area from the south without a lot of vectoring. Friendly desk and line service; 100LL is much cheaper than MDW or PWK. I rented a car for my 3-day stay which was painless with Enterprise. Commute in to Chicago locations is reasonably fast on the Skyway and I-94. Have your wallet out for the tolls.

From Rod McDermott on 15-Aug-2009

Stopped at Gary for a trip into Chicago for 2 days. Very convenient. Adrian did a great job getting the train schedule faxed to me in advance and having a cab ready for us to take into the city. Cab was $75 flat into Chicago; train was $5.50 each ticket and took about the same time but only goes every two hours. Definitely the way to go if you get in at a convenient time and are leaving at the right time. The office staff was great. The line crew was ok. Overall, the service was a 9 out of 10, and would have been a 10 if the line staff when we came back to depart was more responsive. I would definitely go back to Gary as I think this was a fluke based on the air show going on that weekend and the many planes on the ramp. Otherwise a perfect experience, thanks to the great staff.

From Don D. Rogers on 08-Jul-2009

Visited Gary this past weekend and parked at Gary Jet Center to return to a gun shot hole in my airplane! Pilot owners beware. Line service comment, "We see spent ammo on the ground all the time and heard something Saturday but stayed inside- you now this is Gary" After asking for police and airport staff to be called we waited about 2 hours for anyone to come file a report. NO police came, no airport staff and Jet Center was helpless. Tower was the only helpful person on the field when we departed I reported to them. Chicago Center called me to verify as well. Calling FAA and TSA next to see about report. City operations called, denies any wild west shooting on the airport and said FBO incorrect. Hum-I have a hole to have fixed.

Response from Lynn Eplawy, Managing Partner, Gary Jet Center
As Managing Partner of GJC, I'd like to respond to Mr. Rogers, as his comment is not entirely true or fair. In our 20-year history, we have NEVER seen spent ammo on the ground or in an aircraft. Upon interviewing all employees involved with Mr. Rogers on 7/5/09 not one of them ever said anything like the comment he quoted us as saying. It is FALSE. GYY is one of the safest airports in the US, and we take offense to imply that it is not. I also argue that our staff was not "helpless". We called the Gary PD, drove around airport to find GYY personnel (this was Sun pm of July 4th holiday), and called our mx staff to assist in getting aluminum tape. Mr. Roger's frustration with GJC is that we did not contact the airport staff on their cell phones in order for them to come fill out a report. We have since informed line staff to contact airport staff at any time. I have apologized to Mr. Rogers for his wait, and to explain that we disagree with his accusations of being "helpless" and unsafe.

A model FBO! Line service excellent, fuel prices excellent, very comfortable crew rest area and plenty of computers and Internet available with printer. I will definitely be back in our MU2.

From Jim Vick on 01-Jun-2009

Stopped in on the way home from North Carolina due to fuel prices advertised on AirNav. The prices were as advertised and 'Guaranteed' and the service was perfect. Normally I fly all the way around Class B space to get to one of the airports on the north side before I go home to PWK (most expensive fuel in the area by a long ways). I will stop here more often when coming home from the south. The line crew was great (they prioritized us ahead of another single engine when they found out we were in a hurry and the other pilot as looking for a courtesy car). In and out in very short order. Only issue was they did not know the baseball schedules for the Sox or the Cubs which impact how far from shore I have to fly. An issue easily resolved with their free Internet service!

From Mark F. Deatherage on 25-May-2009

I had a business trip to Chicago, so flew to Gary on 5/10/09. Their prices were much better than Midway and there is public transportation to downtown Chicago, saving me car rental and parking. The good folks at Gary were kind enough to take me to the train station (free) as well as pick me up. When a storm went through during my one-week stay, they put my plane in a hangar to protect it from possible injury--also free. If I ever need to visit Chicago again, this is where I'll land--very nice people.

Great airport for getting in and out of Chicago, good service, and good facilities.

From Michael A. DeLain on 26-Feb-2009

Always a treat to land here. Treated like family every time I come in. Cannot write enough good things about these folks.
