Probably one of the most gorgeous approaches I have ever seen. Right out in the middle of nowhere someone (Dave Ingalls) cut the top of a mountain off and laid down a runway. Breathtaking approach. If using runway 25 and wind is out of the west at 20kts. Plus, beware of mountain rotors off mountain ridge right to your West as you are on final for 25. Possible wind shear will become evident once you are on final and see the full approach. The runway is long and wide for plenty of margin to deal with. Strongly suggest calling FBO for current conditions prior to arrival.

Friendly, helpful staff. Good fuel stop. Beautiful views from the airport (I've heard it's the highest east of the Mississippi). Be careful of the winds though!

Stopped in 9/8/10. Good FBO with staff wanting your business! Fair fuel prices. Landed with 28 kts gusting. Long and wide runway makes the sometimes-windy conditions acceptable.

Brought passengers to Ingalls Field to go to The Homestead in a King Air 90. Winds were 25kts gusting to 35kts out of the west. Turbulence was quite moderate a couple of times and there were substantial down drafts due to the winds. I flew in on Rwy 25 at a 45 degree angle from the north and remained above the ridge to avoid the downdrafts...and to leave myself a way to easily turn toward lower terrain if needed. I stayed a little high too. I had a firm but good landing. Becky works hard with the resources she has, offering to help with anything you ask about. Definitely a great place to stop...just visit on the days when the winds are less than 20kts or get some mountain flying training.

Exceptionally friendly service in nice facility. We stopped in to spend some time at The Homestead. In a call to Becky ahead of time we found out that the Homestead charges $69 for pickup at the airport. Rental cars are quite expensive, partly because of $25 delivery fee. Enterprise location is 50-miles away. Although the AirNav shows that the Homestead is 3.8 miles away - that is straight line. Driving is about 18 miles. Overnight fee was $3 with no gas purchase. There were no surprises because of our pre-arrival conversation with Becky. Most of the traffic in and out is jets with Homestead guests.

Amazing view on approach. FBO attendant was very friendly and gave continual wind updates (it was a windy/gusty day), which were helpful. No landing fee for single engine.
