I stopped at Thunderbird early on a Saturday morning to pick up passengers. They have easy access, and were more than friendly. The staff was very helpful, they even made coffee for me the way I like it.

The staff couldn't be nicer. Great service with a smile!

Great FBO and tower for the area. No ramp, parking or overnight fees. Great fuel price plus an additional AirNav discount. Line guys were absolutely terrific. Second time to the area on business and this time I came to KMIC instead of the St Paul Executive Airport. The cab ride was probably only ten minutes longer to downtown and an extra ten bucks, well worth it for the savings over 3 days. One problem that was no fault of the FBO: if arriving from the Southeast, ATC will take you low and wide around the Class B, even if IFR, with several vectors, very bureaucratic. So, if its just a quick stop and your in from the southeast, St Paul could be better when considering the extra flight time and vectoring. Otherwise, and maybe even then, its KMIC and Thunderbird all the way.

Very good service. They pulled the rental car up to the plane, and the lineman even offered to clean the bugs off of the plane due to it being a slow day.

I arrived on a Friday evening, 4/4/09 in a Bonanza. My flaps wouldn't retract. They found a mechanic to work on them at 7am on Saturday morning (from Flying Scotsman, which also deserves some credit). Very reasonable fuel. Very friendly and helpful. The best FBO I've visited in a long while.

I would only stop here again if I were down to my last gallon of fuel. First, Minn. Ctr. Vectors you to China. Then, when you get to the airport, the facilities are sparse. We had a very bumpy ride and were ready to stop for the day. We had called the day before and were told that there were hotels and restaurants close to the airport and that transportation was readily available. When we arrived line service brought the truck around and filled us (the truck didn't look much better than the pump). When we asked about hotels, etc. All the employees told us that they didn't live near the airport and they didn't know anything about hotels. We jumped in the plane and endured another hour of rough weather before stopping for the night. I would not recommend this FBO or this airport as a refueling location.

Response from Chris Cape, Director of Operations, Thunderbird Aviation
We are very sorry that your experience with us at Crystal Airport was below your expectations. Our staff strives everyday to provide excellent customer service, and sometimes we fall short. The reason our facilities, like all others on the field, could be described as "sparse" stems from the City of Crystal pursuing the closing of the airport for the past decade. The good news is the Metropolitan Airports Commission, which runs the airport, recently passed a long-term plan that will keep the airport open. As such, Thunderbird is investing in our facilities, equipment, and lighting. Your commentary regarding local hotels provides us with the opportunity to ensure everyone at Thunderbird is familiar with our services and I will personally make sure our staff is better prepared. Again, I am truly sorry you had an unfavorable experience. I am confident that, if given another chance, we could exceed your expectations.

Outstanding, friendly service. Will definitely be back. No charge for ramp with or without fuel purchase. Fuel is the cheapest around.
