Airport is normally a ghost town, but be cautious of skydiving activity in area. Expect to land with at least a moderate crosswind. Runway is in good shape, marked well and taxi to fuel dock is easy. Fuel prices are a LOT less expensive than Monterey.

Decided to stop off to refuel on the way back from SoCal tonight. Big mistake. The runway lights were flaky and would not stay on. Should have been my first clue. The fuel pump was inop with no power. Looks like a much-neglected airport.

Fuel is much cheaper than Monterey and worked fine.

The cafe is not open regularly. I was told the owner only opens it from time to time for the Rotary club. The 100LL self-serv was in good working order. Lots of skydivers.

Looks like a real airport, however -- there is no FBO on field, the fuel is cheap, but the pump is flaky, sometimes out of service. The runway lights seem to be perpetually out and the the wind tee has been broken for about a year. There is usually nobody to be found on the field. On the plus side, not a lot of traffic, nice big runway with constant xwinds. Watch out for skydiving at the southeast corner of the field. I paid $3.43/gal for 100LL yesterday. The Jet-A pump was inop.

I was over for fuel a few weeks ago and the power was out, they did turn it back on. Prices then was $3.19. I went back for fuel a few weeks later and they were out of fuel and was told to check notams. Just my luck I forgot to do that(darn). A lady from the city was there asking me question about other airports fuel prices. I thought at the time....Look out prices are going up. Guess what....You got it they went up alright a BIG $1.24 a gal. On the one hand I though they had good fuel prices so this was going to be my new regular place to fuel, on the other if the pump isnt broken or out of fuel. Or they raise the price to the outer limits. Thanks but no thanks, I will go to Gustine, they always have good prices.

Stopped in at Marina today and paid $3.16 a gallon for 100LL rather than the $4.20 being charged at SNS six minutes away. Marina always seems to have good fuel prices. Alas, the restaurant appears to have gone, the way of all things for once and for all, which is too bad because it used to be a great stop too.

I was there today, and purchased fuel for the low price of $3.10.

From Dan Dugan on 16-Jan-2006
It's nice that 100LL is $3.10 at OAR, but the catch is that you can't pump it. I pulled in there on Sunday, shut down, then found that there was no power at the SS Island. Result - no gas. A couple of other aircraft tried also. Someone should at least hang out a sign to save our time and avoid shutdown. No one could be raised on the phone - neither the FBO guy or the Airport Manager - very poor performance.
