What a great stop it's awesome to stop at a place that loves GA. Lightning taxi took an hour and half to get to us but who cares when you are hanging out at such a great airport

We had a bit of difficulty figuring out how to get a rental car on the weekend and finally found Hertz. I highly recommend Hertz at 530-676-1601. You need to be a #1 Club member to get a car dropped-off at the airport. We did it on Sun. July 28 and it went like a charm. The guys at the El Dorado County office were very helpful also.

Stopped for gas and lunch on 1-7-07. Excellent, friendly service at the gas pumps -- $3.59 for 100LL. Contrary to an earlier post, it IS easy to get into town. We called Lightning Taxi and they picked us up within 10 minutes. The cab ride into town was only $7 each way. Ate at a good burger joint. Overall, Placerville is a great hamburger destination or inexpensive fuel stop. The money we saved on gas was enough to pay for lunch :-)

This is a beautiful airport in a wonderful area. But.... No cars to rent... No shuttle bus... No public transportation into town. This is a total shame because Placerville is a beautiful historic town with plenty of things for tourists to do. Also, fuel is higher priced here than other local airports. It used to have one of the best prices around. Maybe they don't want us to visit.

Ditto the previous comments about friendly and attentive service. Runway and taxiway conditions are very good at KPVF. Runway 23 has a modest uphill gradient to keep you on your toes for landing. I'll be back for the service, great gas prices, and views of the snow-capped Sierras.

I would say that the downdrafts on final for 23 are strong at times. I have had very few days where I did not feel them. Of course, this is being in a 152 and Diamond Eclipse. I did not notice them when I flew a 172 in, though I was already feeling it fall like a rock (comparatively). Brian has always been great about pumping the fuel. No UNICOM call is required as he's always on the watch for transients and tenants alike. The fuel prices are insanely low here compared to where I'm used to, which is SJC (Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International). The bathrooms are far from new, but they get the job done. As for restaurants, downtown is less than a mile away and has several restaurants. The nearest is Tijuana Taqueria, with very good food, low prices, and less than half a mile down the road.
