I came in, in our Beech 33A on a Saturday while on a cross country from Charlotte to Las Vegas. Not attended, but didn't need to be. Several airplanes in the pattern using the longer runway 17, even though the winds were right down runway 12. But easy to adjust with the crowd. Self-serve pump worked perfectly, including receipt. No line when I pulled up. Honor system snacks and water inside the nice new terminal. Longview Approach answered on the first call outbound.

Flew into RFI today, 20 miles out I announced my intentions, received response from Rusk County Unicom informing me the credit card machine was not working, but would accept cash or check. I landed, airport manager David met me at the fuel pump, apologized for credit card machine not working, informed me that it should be fixed by tomorrow. I am a twice a month RFI customer for the past 8 years - this airport is the best - great fuel prices [currently $4.25 per gal, lowest I have seen], good runway, clean restroom, weather computer, etc. The new manager, David, is very personable and willing to help any way he can. The prior post is just flat wrong. This airport is one of my favorites.

This airport has really gone downhill. The gas pump is broken more often than it's working and the airport manager doesn't seem to care enough to even put an announcement on the AWOS. Heaven help you if you land here low on fuel.

Response from David Dumas, Airport Manager, Rusk County Airport
NOTAM was sent out on March 12th, if pilots would check NOTAMS before their flight like they are supposed to do they would no about the fuel situation.

I had a MX problem that required me to leave the plane for a short period on the ramp. David was more than willing to help in any way possible. He made me feel right at home. The fuel facilities work great and the mission prep area is awesome with a brand new wx computer. Outstanding fuel prices aside, this is one of the best places you can stop for any reason!

Stopped in on a trip to GLS for the LOWEST FUEL PRICES in the nation ($4.02/gal 100LL). Thank you and way to go RFI. Those of us with a flying budget really appreciate your efforts to keep costs down.

From Margie Oldenkamp on 20-Nov-2012

Fantastic fuel prices - first time we had a line for fuel when flying cross-country. Worth the stop -

From Harry Bladow on 15-Nov-2012

Stopped for fuel 10/25/12. Great facility. Only "glitch" the receipt printer was out of ink. It is probably fixed by now. Good to see the fuel price decreased!

We stopped by late one evening on a trip from the Washington D.C. Area down to San Marcos, TX. Overall the experience was a positive one. The FBO is very nice and as previously stated, I believe this to be the cheapest avgas in the country. My only issue was that the pump would only pump 100$ at a time. This resulted in having to try to reauthorize the pump 4 or 5 times. And THIS led to the bank issuing a fraud alert on the credit card making our late night visit even later. After a phone call to the bank, and 4 authorizations later, we were on our way. It is a great airport but a 100$ cap on fuel is a bit low. Despite this, I wouldn't hesitate to stop in again. Also, watch out for the wildlife on take off. I was keeping my eyes on the herd of deer when a fox came out of nowhere and expedited my rotation.

Stopped here yesterday in my Super Cub. I really appreciate the city or whoever owns the airport keeping such a nice facility available for pilots. I stop here for gas whenever I can. Thank you.

Stopped going East for fuel 3/24/12, price as advertised, $4.19/gal, stopped going West on Sunday, 4/15/12, price as advertised, $4.57/gal. Decided to stay overnight due to thunderstorm line West of Henderson, moving slowly eastward. Fortunately a very friendly pilot landed behind us, put our airplane in a hangar, (hail concern), and gave us a ride to a motel in town. There is a Courtesy Car available, but only when the Airport Manager, Dave, is at the airport, which does not include Weekends or nights. Dave will provide transport to/from town, but isn't always available to answer his phone, and leaving a msg doesn't provide transport. We finally made contact with Dave Monday morning, and he graciously provided a ride from the motel to the airport. There is NO TAXI company in town. I strongly suggest that in the event a pilot thinks he might want to stay overnight, prior transportation arrangements be made.

There is a reason this airport continues to get 5 Stars. GREAT fuel price, great facilities and the manager is welcoming and friendly. All I did was stop for fuel but it was a 5 Star stop for me!

From Galin Hernandez on 01-Apr-2012

This is a great airport. Facilities are top notch and the SS fuel is by far the cheapest anywhere nearby. There was nobody there to help on a Saturday and no food available but that doesn't take away from it being an excellent stopping point. I will be back.

Great service! Cheap fuel! Great airport manager! Best airport I've ever been at!

From Tim Voithofer on 31-Jan-2012

Cheapest gas around! We stopped here on our way to and from Houston from St. Louis to fuel up a C310. Great facility and friendly staff!

From Del Martin on 15-Jan-2012

Stopped in Jan 12, 2012 and tanked up for 3.99 a gal nice facilities. Nice runway also the cheapest avgas in the country!

From Robert Johnson on 18-Oct-2011

Great airport and FBO! I flew in for a funeral last night and called ahead to see if there was a courtesy car. We would be landing after the office closed, but the manager, Mr. Dumas, went out of his way to make sure the keys were available for us - Thank you!

From Rob Ray on 09-Oct-2011

Wow, nice FBO. Cheapest SS fuel in the USA, courtesy car waiting and friendly manager. What more can you ask? Thanks!

From Jim Patterson on 04-Oct-2011

For personal reasons, I resigned as manager of RFI effective 31 August 2011 and no longer have any connection with the airport or Rusk County. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many great customers I had an opportunity to meet during my 4 years there. Thanks especially to those of you who took time to enter comments here on AirNav, and hope our paths will cross again in the future. S/Jim Patterson

From Lex Thistlethwaite on 09-Jul-2011

I stopped in on July 4th. SS fuel was available at the AirNav advertised price of $4.39 event though the FBO was closed. The good news is access to the bathrooms and water fountain inside the building was available through the flight line by entering code all pilots should know. Thanks guys!

From Dr. G. Gregg Petty on 04-Jun-2011

One of the nicest places to go to get avgas. Jim is so very nice and helpful. The self-serve machine was a little finicky (maybe my fault). It's worth the trip to get gas there for the low prices alone but I call early to use the airport vehicle to eat in town while we're there.

From Scott "Doc" Horowitz on 15-May-2011

May 2nd 2011 flying from Salt Lake City, UT to Titusville, FL. A great place to refuel/visit. Stopped in with the family and the "flying mini-van" (C-340). Nice runways, facilities, and great SS fuel prices! But, best of all, good-'ol fashioned hospitality! Not much ground transportation available, so Jim took us all to the local hotel for the night and brought us back in the morning to continue our trip to Florida to see the last launch of Endeavor (which was scrubbed, but not Jim's fault). We will definitely make this a regular stop on all future trips to Florida.

What a great airport!!! Excellent facility, with great fuel price. We borrowed the courtesy car to go into town, had a great lunch, strolled the streets, and visited the neat shops. We will be back to spend the night in this beautiful quaint east Texas town.

From Michael Caban on 06-Jan-2011

Excellent facility! New SS pump for 100LL and an excellent interior FBO building. The icing on the cake is their pricing philosophy in these times of high gas prices. It was great to buy 112 gallons from them!

From David Dufreche on 14-Dec-2010

Did a fuel stop at Rusk. Great little airport. Airport manager Jim Patterson was very helpful. Great inside, with all that you would need. No cold drink machine, but they got a little fridge with drinks and snacks. Easy in and easy out. Credit card pump with big tank, right next to the FBO. Just a skip from GGG, so this will be my fuel stop from now on.

From Patric Coggin on 30-Oct-2010

Great place for quickest and cheapest fuel turn in the area, or take your time and relax in very nice lounge.

From David Kammeyer on 20-Oct-2010

Great facility. Came in at night when the airport was not attended, but found the cheapest fuel in Texas and a nice terminal building. This is the perfect fuel stop.

From Allen Gilbert on 11-Oct-2010

Absolutely done right! What a great airport. Small town airport, with classy lounge, and super cheap fuel! Everywhere else could take a lesson from these guys!!

From Dwaine Thompson on 01-Oct-2010

Great clean facility. No one was there when I arrived on my x-country trip from Denver City TX to Bastrop LA. Great fuel price at $3.29 gallon. Pump just a few feet from FBO. CTAF code gets u into the FBO, which look like the lobby of a fine Hotel, very clean and comfortable. Drinks and snacks available on honor system, pilots lounge, computer and WiFi...Great fuel/rest stop. RUSK COUNTY has got it together. A preferred stop for me.

Great airport for quick stop and fuel price. Airport was deserted except for lady cleaning the terminal building. Good wifi connection for briefing. Self-service was easy to use. We'll be back.
