Went to Ramona for my first solo cross-country, and refueled at Chuck Hall per flight school policy. During run-up, I checked the passenger-side window and the latch popped off, and fell outside the aircraft. I picked up the latch, taxied back to Chuck Hall. Their mechanic went out and screwed the latch for me. After 5 minutes, I was rolling again. Its nice to know there are people who are willing to help, especially if you're a student pilot on your first solo cross-country. I'll definitely go to them next time I'm in the airport.

I have been an occasional patron of Chuck Hall Aviation over the last several years. Yesterday, after completing a fun 4-ship sortie, I had the occasion to personally meet Gen. Hall. Very cool guy. On takeoff heading back home, I experienced engine problems and quickly got around to land. It was determined that the plane would have to stay for awhile for Vladimir to fix it. Chuck was right there the whole time and immediately got on the phone to astronaut Bill Anders to see if I could temporarily house my plane in his hanger. He also loaned me his spare truck and patiently made sure I was going to be OK until my ride came to get me. There is a lot of history, cool airplanes, and really cool aviation people at this airport and Chuck Hall Aviation is steeped in it. What's even better they are totally unpretentious and accomodating. A friend in need is a friend indeed, and Chuck and his gang stepped up when I needed them most. Thanks guys!
