We've been making this a fuel stop. Nice airport, clean restrooms, friendly people, excellent IFR approaches, cheap fuel, and a decent hotel with pick-up and a restaurant. There is little traffic and they seem delighted to have visitors. One problem. The AWOS is unreliable and the airport is in controlled Class E airspace. No matter what you see out the window, the AWOS is the legal weather and you can be violated if it doesn't say "3 miles." Think of this as a towered field, but without the services.
Landed and got a rental car from Hertz for a weekend of touring Kings Canyon and Sequoia. Nice staff didn't charge for parking. Fairly active airport with UPS, FedEx and air carrier service. Hertz will do an after hours drop off if you're a gold member.
