Flew in for the weekend of April 19/20th. Pretty good time. Got an IFR descent through the marine layer and had a nice uneventful landing on RWY 29. Campground is small, but big enough for the two planes we had and our group of 4 men. Lots of restaurants in the area for food, and a small party store a short walk for liquid refreshments. Beach/dunes is a short 10-minute walk or so. Campground sprinklers start at 12:00 PM, so make sure they get turned off before setting your stuff up on the camp.

Still fuel. However the campground no longer has the kitchen/shower area. It is also grown over with grass. It is sad to see it go bad!

We stopped in Oceano on Oct. 8 for a picnic break and fuel on the way to San Diego. The fuel pump worked fine - great fuel price of $3.67. The picnic area and playground across the street made for a kid-friendly stopover, and of course, the beach is in easy walking distance.

Oceano has Self-Serve fuel again! Current price $3.67 Looks like the new fuel vendor will be able to provide fuel without any interruptions.

Great place to go and get away from the rush of city life. Airport has good staff but no avfuel as of 6-2-07. SMX and SLO are a short distance away. 3 campgrounds in walking distance from airport. 10.00 per night plane parking fee. The showers were removed and waiting for new ADA approval to build new ones. (Could be a long wait for local gov't paperwork). The airport gate is locked each night and manager lives on airport so planes are safe for overnighters. Most times wind favors traffic on RWY 29.

Camped at Oceano over Memorial Day Weekend, had a great time! There is still no fuel, no showers, and just a porta-potty at the field (there are additional bathrooms at the park across the street). Tie-down $10/night, camping $10/night, and firewood $10/wheelbarrow. Sky was low overcast until mid-afternoon every day, so not much activity at the airport other than a local pilot selling rides in a Stearman. But the town, beach, and dunes were overflowing with big 4x4's and ATV's. Watching a steady stream of silly folks get the family sedan inevitably stuck in the soft beach sand was also a good form of entertainment. Sunday we rented some quads from Steve's ATV, which was a bit of a zoo despite us having made reservations in advance. Several excellent meals were had at the Rock & Roll Diner and Juan's Cantina (the fish & chips place looks very abandoned, apparently closed indefinitely). All of the above are within easy walking distance (<1mile) of the airport, so no car is needed.

Oceano is a great, small, friendly airport. Due to ADA requirements, the showers, sink, toilets by the camp ground have been removed. They could not build a ramp up to the showers, and the toilets could not be made ADA. So they were forced to remove the whole lot. So unfortunate! Before, it was a great place to camp, for a great price. Other restrooms are slated for ADA re-vamp. Right now, just a handicap, port-a-potty. Have to admit longing for the showers....Progress?

Fuel pump inop, and according to one of the locals on the field, it has been that way for a couple of months. Restrooms at the terminal were also "closed" today. A porta-potty is located nearby on the ramp. Whether aviating or camping, be prepared for the sea breeze. Wind today was probably 18G24-favoring runway 29, with not a cloud in the sky. Easy walk to nearby restaurants (another restroom option).

Flew in with my teen-age son to spend some quality time together. This was a surprise trip for him. Rented quads at Arnie's (Pat is a great instructor!). Had a tri-tip sandwich next door at Suzanne's Great weather - lots of sun - not a single cloud. Minor crosswind. Life's is good. Living it one flight at a time!

We flew into Oceano for lunch on 1/14/07. Self-serve fuel pumps are currently out of service. Old Juan's (Mexican food) is a 5-minute walk away, as is the Old Railroad Diner (inside an actual railroad car.) The beach is also a short walk away, and ATV rentals (for racing around on the Oceano Dunes) were within walking distance. Overall, a nice place to stop for food and some beachcombing. There is also a nice-looking hotel within a few minutes' walk.

My wife and I flew into Oceano Sunday Oct 8th around 1pm, the day was clear with no fog or clouds, lots of other planes arriving and departing, ramp space is tight. Stayed at the Pacific Plaza Resort, which I wouldn't call a resort but group of sterile 1 and 2 bedroom apartments clean and fairly new, show them your AAA card, very close to the ATV rentals. The Fish and Chips place is closed, Old Juan’s is average Mexican fare and the Rock and Roll Diner is above average. If you want to go anywhere better book a rental car or plan on walking several miles, purchased fuel at $4.50 gal, campground is in average shape the county has a campground next door for $23.00 per night. Oceano is very laidback and ATV's rule great place to bring the grandkids! Plan on dealing with fog/low clouds/wind/sand and departing when the weather allows

Camped at the airport $10/night. They have fire rings and showers. Rented 2 person ATVs from Steve's 805 481 2597 they were very helpful and riding the dunes is what Oceano is all about.

Got to revisit Oceano airport 08/19/06 - 08/20/06. Lots of gas available at the self serve (remember, by buying AvGas at small airports YOU are helping to keep gas available in the future at these small airports). Campground amenities were great - clean pay showers with lots of hot water, clean toilets & yes a laundry room! A couple of outside sinks, fire pits, picnic tables and great views of the runway make this a delight to visit. Rode my bike around the airport perimeter and down to the beach. Lots of wildlife abound! Old Juan's Mexican Restaurant was packin' em in - food was great! From the air, the beach very much reminded me of Los Angeles, bumper to bumper & people everyplace. $10 tie down & $10 camping fee. $.50 for a great 2-minute shower.

We rented ATV's from Arnies. They gave us a ride from Pier Avenue to the ATV/Sand dunes. We had to wait nearly an hour for the ride to the dunes so you might call ahead and schedule the rental (we didn't, maybe that was our problem). We had a blast and decided the 2-hour rental was the right amount of time. Any longer and your hands/body just get tired. Later in the day we rented a dune buggy from the rental place across the street from Arnies. That was a real blast too!! They had a better system to get customers out to the dunes and we only waited about 10 minutes for the ride (both to and from the dunes). It's kind of expensive, but really fun!

We camped there August 11th. Campground was nice and all facilities as advertised. We really liked the camping experienced. Everything is $10 (tie down, camping, firewood, vehicle parking). Also, they do not have any fuel!! The airport manager is asleep at the wheel on this issue since there is not a notam about it. They only posted a very small sign on the fuel tank ... Not too much good if you've already landed and need fuel.

Tried to fly into Oceano this past weekend. As expected, the fog was rolling in and out. We ended up diverting to SBP, renting a car, and drove to Oceano to camp anyway. The guy at the airport seemed a little cranky until we showed him our pilot’s licenses. Cost us 10 bucks to camp and 10 bucks to park the car outside the gate. The old on-field tent was gone, and the bathrooms/showers are starting to get a little run down.

We were there to do a little camping, and had a great time. The people that run the place are wonderful, and friendly. Highly recommended for a visit.
