Great place for a walk on the beach and $100 taco. Old Juan's Cantina is a short walk away on Pier Street.

L52 is a favorite destination. Note that the airport website has webcams to allow you to check the weather in real time. Both the of the nearby restaurants, Old Juan's Cantina (at about 2:00 o'clock and 150 yards when you come out the airport gate) and Rock n' Roll Diner (at 3:00 o'clock in the yellow train car just up the little hill) are adequate eateries and will welcome your dog. If you want to take a walk on the beach, the Pismo Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove (they have a website) is about a mile up the beach and is free. Take the next paved drive-off beach entrance to the north, then follow the boardwalk a short way. The Monarchs show up in large numbers from November to February. It can be quite spectacular.

There is a camping area adjacent to the ramp for overnight tent camping. Walkable to the beach. I have been to the Rock and Roll diner a number of times, and always found it quite good, particularly the house specialties and milkshakes. Great breakfasts, tri-tip beef, and Greek Entrée.

We visited Oceano for fuel and lunch while headed north along the coast. Self-serve fuel was as expected and there is a nice little pilot lounge available. When the weather allows, it is a perfect place to make a quick stop. But, avoid the Rock and Roll Diner. Food is sub-par at best. While the runway is plenty long and wide at 2,300 x 50, pilots used to 5,000'+ need to pay attention.
