Runway is in good to excellent condition, definitely above "fair" and nowhere near "poor" that it is rated in the AFD. No cell reception to close flight plans or obtain weather briefings.

I would advise coming in from the north, as a southern approach can be a little tricky if you fly legal and get into the pattern. The tarmac was in excellent condition. Don't do what I did and wait until you are on the ground to close your flight plan. There is no phone and no cell-phone service. I was told by many to use 11 for take-off. I did this, but even with a mild tailwind you will not come unstuck until well down the runway. A takeoff from 29 should not be a problem even with the hill there. There is plenty of room to maneuver. But with all that said it is a beautiful and un-crowded place to visit and well worth the trip.

Landed Nov 27, 2009 on runway 29, little bumpy but OK. Unfortunately a KitFox looks like it tried to land on 11 eariler that morning and did not make the runway. Hit the dirt and bounced on the runway-lots of damage to KitFox, pilot EVac, punctured lung, etc., he lived. Watch for the winds. There is now a wind sock mid-field, kinda hard to see, but it's there.

The wind was fairly strong out of the east and I made an angled final to runway 11 for a landing down hill. Once parked in a nice tie down area we hiked up through the native desert a short distance to the full service campground. The campground was very neat, clean, with several motor homes on extended stays. We found a modern spa and cold pool fed from the natural hot springs. All and All it was an interesting place to visit and the flight south from the desert area had spectacular views.
